So when it matters most a monometal solid and not a composit solid.

It is interesting the GSC expanded so much.

I dunno. I like that first buff better than the second. What an old gladiator!

It's interesting that the sledgehammer broke apart on a finishing shot (I assume at very short range). I've had "failures" with solids on finishing shots; fishtailing, riveting. I think the reason is that the bullet hasn't had time to settle down in flight and is still yawing.

The only failures I've had with sledgehamers were with finishing shots, one on a buffalo spine and the other a hippo skull. At longer ranges they did just fine.

Your elephant is fantastic. I loved your buff though. He was atrue dagga boy. Lots of character. Fantastic well done.

An excellent adventure, well done. Your trophies are excellent, I particularly enjoyed the old dugga boy. Your safair was done in the spirit of real hunting.

Excellent report! Sounds like the hunt of a lifetime.

Thanks for posting the bullet photos.

I've used GS and the tungsten solids on both elephant and buffalo. Both are excellent.

It is common for solids to foul up when shot at very close range. I believe that John Taylor referenced this in one of his books. It is from the bullet not having time to go to "sleep" after leaving the barrel.

Interesting that you were able to recover some GS solids. I've never been able to recover any of 'em. (Still going, as far as I know.)

Great report and trophies.

You managed to take three buffalo and what is the deal there? Was the trophy fee the same for the second and third?

Bobby,

Any plans to go back? Nixon runs a heck of a good safari...

In just the last week, I know of five guys that have booked with Nixon. Sounds like he is doing well!

The only thing Nixon could improve on are those tin roofs on the cabins. Late in the season it is like sleeping in an oven. Seems to me that taking off the tin and putting on thatch would not be that expensive and would sure be cooler late in the season.

Will be going back over to hunt with Nixon in October 2011.

How many elephants does Nixon have on quota at Malapati for 2011?

Don't forget, he has Malapati and a communal area. Both have good elephants. I shot one in each!

It appears we have a concerted effort by the Nixon Dzinghai suuporters to try and rehabilitate his reputation. Resurrecting a 2+ yr old thread to try to get around all the shenanigans of late is amusing. You haven't seen any recent reports of hunting with SSG for a reason. Despite the cheer leading of Scott Terry and others, there are many reasons to avoid this operation. The question about quota for Malapati is really precious (and probably well meaning.) When dealing with an unscrupulous outfit that routinely violates Zimbabwe hunting regulations, why would anyone think quota is relevant?
Anyone hunting with SSG Safaris in Zimbabwe has been fairly warned that this operation is not above board.

Give it up LlamaBill. Facts seem to show that you are the crook, not SSG Safaris. Big Grin You seem to be the only one who doesn't recognize the FACTS in this case?? Confused
