This was the very first hunt my wife had ever been on. She jumped right into the deep end- and loved it. We were married 3 weeks after after this tryout. Caprivi. We had a bluff charge from 2 cows the first day and she stood her ground although the trackers took off. Shot this bull the next day

.416 REM with a reflex sight. Camp rifle. She passed the test with flying colors and has certainly been a keeper ever since- another elephant hunt, bird shooting Safari all over RSA, and a few plains game hunts. Headed back next month for a bit more hunting.

Did she ever show any interest in rifle skills training ? With that steely nerve she would be a damn fine backup on Elephant and Buff.
Are you still hunting Africa ?

She has no desire to shoot anything but loves to go along on the tracking. We’re headed back a month from tomorrow for some plains game hunting in RSA. We tracked that elephant for almost 5 miles before we caught up with him.Shot him right at dark, had to walk back to the truck in the dark and came back the next morning for recovery and photos.

My wife has been to Africa with me many times.

But she does not hunt.

She enjoys being out following elephants with us.

And keeps Walter in check!

One time he was giving her and a friend's wife a hard time.

The girls decided to teach him a lesson.

They added ORANGE hair color to his shampoo!

You should have seen the look on his face when he turned up at dinner with orange hair!

He left them alone after that.

Nice bull and even better bride! Big Grin

Dangerous game hunting is easy compared to the challenges of marriage, but success in both is sweet indeed. tu2

The secrets of a happy marriage are tolerance and obedience.

You tolerate her.

She obeys you! clap

The day she first met me, my wife told her friend that this was a man who needed managing. She managed me very efficiently for decades from hardship to wealth. Unfortunately, since her death last year I seem to have gone a bit feral again!

I hate cooking. I would struggle to live healthily if my wife left me or dies before me and I doubt another woman would want to partner a grumpy old fart like me. I'm lucky to have the lady I already have.

I love cooking.

And I have a wife and daughter who also love cooking.

I am spoiled for choice!

And both of them keep telling me I don’t eat enough! rotflmo

Sounds exactly like my dear mother in law Saeed. She loves me, and loves cooking for me and she is a fabulous cook. It's like when I married my wife the MIL was included. I still can't believe my luck there. The whole family loves her dearly as she is such an amazing and loving matriarch who is so proud of her descendants.

We were in Sweden at a village festival.

My wife worked there helping.

I was out taking pictures where all the food was being prepared.

My wife comes out with a cold can of Coke for me.

One the men cooking burgers said “my wife doesn’t do this for me!”

I said “your wife is married to a Swede! Mine is married to an Arab. She likes to be NUMBER ONE. Because I am legally allowed to have a number two, three or four!” rotflmo

We in the West have serial monogamy, of course.

One marriage and divorce after another, theoretically ad infinitum.

It would probably be better for us to marry several women all at once, like the Sultans of old.

The wives would probably end up fighting and killing each other, which would save a lot of money on divorce costs.

On the other hand, they might band together and murder their husband in his sleep.

That possibility might keep a man awake at night.

Eunuchs are hard to find these days, and slaves cannot be had at any price.

So guarding a harem and keeping multiple wives in line has become nigh unto impossible.

Just think of all the good stuff we guys can afford to have by not maintaining a harem of wives. And after all the experience of having a one and only wife for 38 years I know I couldn't cope with more. Other cultures no doubt have their reasons for polygamy but I don't want a bar of it.

A Sultan in ancient history, married women for a purpose.

He married an Arab to breed from.

He married a Persian woman to cook for him.

He married an Indian woman sing for him.

He married a Turkish woman to beat up, as an example for others!

Hence the derogatory title TURKEY! clap

The key to financial success is to turn over your wives and cars as few times as possible.

Mike

Legistine actu quod scripsi?

Never under estimate the internet community's ability to reply to your post with their personal rant about their tangentially related, single occurrence issue.

What I have learned on AR, since 2001:
1. The proper answer to: Where is the best place in town to get a steak dinner? is…You should go to Mel's Diner and get the fried chicken.
2. Big game animals can tell the difference between .015 of an inch in diameter, 15 grains of bullet weight, and 150 fps.
3. There is a difference in the performance of two identical projectiles launched at the same velocity if they came from different cartridges.
4. While a double rifle is the perfect DGR, every 375HH bolt gun needs to be modified to carry at least 5 down.
5. While a floor plate and detachable box magazine both use a mechanical latch, only the floor plate latch is reliable. Disregard the fact that every modern military rifle uses a detachable box magazine.
6. The Remington 700 is unreliable regardless of the fact it is the basis of the USMC M40 sniper rifle for 40+ years with no changes to the receiver or extractor and is the choice of more military and law enforcement sniper units than any other rifle.
7. PF actions are not suitable for a DGR and it is irrelevant that the M1, M14, M16, & AK47 which were designed for hunting men that can shoot back are all PF actions.
8. 95 deg F in Africa is different than 95 deg F in TX or CA and that is why you must worry about ammunition temperature in Africa (even though most safaris take place in winter) but not in TX or in CA.
9. The size of a ding in a gun's finish doesn't matter, what matters is whether it’s a safe ding or not.
10. 1 in a row is a trend, 2 in a row is statistically significant, and 3 in a row is an irrefutable fact.
11. Never buy a WSM or RCM cartridge for a safari rifle or your go to rifle in the USA because if they lose your ammo you can't find replacement ammo but don't worry 280 Rem, 338-06, 35 Whelen, and all Weatherby cartridges abound in Africa and back country stores.
12. A well hit animal can run 75 yds. in the open and suddenly drop with no initial blood trail, but the one I shot from 200 yds. away that ran 10 yds. and disappeared into a thicket and was not found was lost because the bullet penciled thru. I am 100% certain of this even though I have no physical evidence.
13. A 300 Win Mag is a 500 yard elk cartridge but a 308 Win is not a 300 yard elk cartridge even though the same bullet is travelling at the same velocity at those respective distances.

Guys,

I knew very early on in our relationship that Sadie was going to be the one. She loved to fish and didn't mind peeing in the bushes. Once we moved to Alaska we had many DIY experiences and a couuple guided hunts. When I told Sadie that I thought we could afford a 10 day buffalo hunt in Africa she immediately said that 10 days was not enough! The only caveat was no cats. We booked 14 days for buff and PG and had quite an adventure. On the flight home Sadie asked what we would hunt on the next safari. I was stunned! I said that leoaprd was the next logistical step up and she agreed.

All of this has led to sharing many hunts in Africa and other location. Sadie does not shoot but enjoys the expereinces immensely to my sheer delight.

I hit the Jackpot on this one.

+1

Nothing like a life partner that shares a thirst for adventure and the next bend in the road.

I'm fortunate that my wife has never given me any guff about my hunting. She has gone a couple times, once to Africa but would never take an animal. She loves to eat Elk.
As an aside, one time we were driving and she said, "If I would pass before you I would like to be cremated and my ashes put up beside your guns and knives because that's what means the most to you".
