Well, January's half over and spring will be here in no time, so who is going on the first safari of the year? Tanzania season goes through March and Cameroon and CAR are prime now through March. After that, some of those early big elephant hunts occur in Bots and Zim.

So, who is the lucky dog that will take the first hunt and post the first report?

Not me. I don't get back to Zim until October. NZ in June and Idaho in April for Black Bear.

I do have one of the early big Ele hunts in Zim for 2013 however!

I just returned from Cameroon on January 9th. My hunt report is partially finished, but it is going to be looonnnng.

I am trying to keep it concise, but it is difficult. A lot of wild stuff happened.

Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

Shootaway- What rifle will you use for your leopard hunt? You will have fun setting up and hunting leopard. Good luck.

Dave,I would like to use my own rifle-the one Ralph Martini made but there is a ban on Canadians importing rifles to Zim.I`ve requested the 458 Lott I rented the last time.I would like to have both a scoped and open sight rifle at the blind. If it`s an easy shot off a rest and light conditions are good I would really like to use the Lott with open sights. On the other hand if for whatever reason an easy shot is not possible then I would have no choice but to go with a scoped rifle.I`ll be using an open sighted Lott for whatever else I hunt there including the buff.

You can't bring your own rifle from Canada to Zimbabwe for safari?

From Aus you now require a special permit from what I've heard. Might be the same in Canada?

Tried that on my last Lion hunt but found it's more of a pain. In the end, I carried the open sighted 425 due to the close proximity to the bait and the fact that it would need to be clearly visible so as to age it.

That certainly happens. It is still illegal, but it happens.

So you spend 10+k usd for a safari rifle and you can't even take it on safari?

I know that you are Canadian and you guys respect your country, but dang, you need to grow a pair! Who f-ucking cares if it is illegal?

Fly into SA then continue on to Zim.

Seriously, it is your obligation to break unjust laws.
