Tim, I understand the constraints placed on the PH by the concession you are in, aside from that, I would say the two quotes above say about everything worth saying on this subject. Brad

Tim I finally got logged on to AR. I am the one that sent you the e-mail prior to your departure. First off it sounds like you are having a great, classic safari in a true wilderness area. Other than not finding the "right lion" so far what more could you ask for? Back to the question from my original e-mail: Could you give us your general observation about the elephant situation in Niassa? Even though they cannot currently be imported into the US, elephant are the "Big Ticket" animal in Niassa. I know that Kambako took a really nice 100 pounder in 2010 but I have not heard any recent reports from 2011 or 2012. Reliable reports of incresed poaching have been circulating as well and I HOPE that Kambako's areas have been spared. Have you seen any poached elephant carcasses? I spoke with someone today who hunted with anoter Niassa operator in August 2011. He had a great safari taking all of the animals he was looking for BUT did see 6 or 7 poached elephant carcases. They even set up blinds and hunted lions over one of the carcasses. He did say that he saw a good number of live elephants on his safari as well. Good luck the next 6 days!

Congrats on a great safari! The sable and zebra are stunners and the actual lion hunt is JUST THAT.... a true hunter on a true hunt. Success for the safari is not measured in the harvest but in the character to which the hunter conducts the hunt! Keep up the good fight, and I wish you luck on finding a proper lion. Buzz, Not to turn Tim's thread into a pissing match...but with the skulls in hand...it is fairly cut-and-dry to get with in 6 months of actual age and quite easy to tell a 4 from a 6. Stu tells me the ele poaching in Niassa as a whole is definitely an issue, but they are not getting hit real hard here in their block. Their anti-poaching team is doing a pretty good job. We have seen no dead eles at all or any signs of any poaching... Good Hunting, Tim Herald Worldwide Trophy Adventures tim@trophyadventures.com

I don't want to derail a good hunting report but I am curious about knowing more. Can you please explain it further for a novice like me? PM me if that's ok. Thanks The price of knowledge is great but the price of ignorance is even greater.

Several outfits have provides small booklets (yes I have seen them) to their PH teams with pic's and data taken on various males in their concession. They update the data as new info comes in. I AM NOT putting that kind of hard work down, let me clear on that. I do the same, but less detailed thing on our whitetail operation in TX. But it is my personal feeling that sitting in a blind with a PH holding a "player program" takes something away from the mystery of the hunt. My personal feelings only. Info is good, as well as hard to attain in most cases. You may fee; differently, which is fine. Dave Fulson

That's a good point Dave. When does it approach a Namibian Black Rhino hunt where the three males designated for harvest are chosen beforehand. ______________________ DRSS ______________________ Hunt Reports 2015 His & Her Leopards with Derek Littleton of Luwire Safaris - http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/2971090112 2015 Trophy Bull Elephant with CMS http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/1651069012 DIY Brooks Range Sheep Hunt 2013 - http://forums.accuratereloadin...901038191#9901038191 Zambia June/July 2012 with Andrew Baldry - Royal Kafue http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/7971064771 Zambia Sept 2010- Muchinga Safaris http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/4211096141 Namibia Sept 2010 - ARUB Safaris http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/6781076141

Buzz - What Lane says here is true! Not that it has anything to do with hunting/field conditions, but it is a factual statement. I feel for ya Tim, as I know you want a lion pretty bad! I think the lion you are interested in looks pretty nice, but considering the circumstances of the rules in the Niassa - seems like you are guys are doing the best you can. Good luck to ya my friend, it appears overall the hunt is really going well.

Aaron, We don't have a photo of the last lion we turned down. It blows the two in the photos away. Doesn't matter at this point. Good Hunting, Tim Herald Worldwide Trophy Adventures tim@trophyadventures.com

[/QUOTE] That is one UGLY looking Rifle. Practical maybe, but UGLY "A peculiar virtue in wildlife ethics is that the hunter ordinarily has no gallery to applaud or disapprove of his conduct. Whatever his acts, they are dictated by his own conscience, rather than by a mob of onlookers. It is difficult to exaggerate the importance of this fact."

Thx for the explanation Dave. I did note you mentioned TGT in your post and was trying to understand if that is what you are saying they do? There is less and less "romanticism" in todays African hunting - see the evolution of hunting camps and gear today, as a prime example! Even in hunting management, trying to keep up with modern conservation methods to maintain sustainability requires periodic review of policy and operational regulations. Unfortunately, the more we learn and know, the more review is necessary and adaptations required. It won't stop me from heading out into the field as often as possible in pursuit of quarry though.
