This beautiful old Dagga boy was taken 2 days ago in the APNR.

My hunter , Horst , a German gentleman , had hunted many buffalo before , but insisted he wanted a very old , worn down Buffalo with lots of " you owe me money " Character.

After tracking and looking over a number of Bulls we found this old warrior lying up under a palm tree in a dry river bed. The setting was beautiful , with us standing up on the ridge spotting him , and below us the long winding dry river dotted with green vegetation , rocks and pools of water. The old Dagga boy obviously also approved of the place.
a Lengthy stalk put us within 40 yards of the Bull when suddenly he sensed we were there , jumped up and started running up the embankment. A deep Buffalo call came from Calvin , my tracker , and the Bull stopped in his tracks and turned side on , giving us the look. Just enough time for me to get the shooting sticks into new position and for Horst to take his shot. He did good, he had his Bull and realized a life time dream.

This is where he was hiding in. We spotted him from the top of the ridge.

Who knows how many battles this old Warrior had fought in his life , with other Bulls and Lions alike.
I was reminded again of how privileged we are to still be able to hunt Buffalo in a beautiful and natural big 5 areas like this.

Well done Jan - what a lovely old bull taken in a fantastic area. Is there any chance you can get me his two first molar teeth? These are the third ones from the back of the lower jaw. If this is a hassel, then the whole lower jawbone would be great. I age the bull to be in his 12 th yr but this is always a bit of a thumb suck. Being able to measure his 1 st molars will give me a more accurate estimation. Give me a call sometime 0766519836 Doctari

Thanks Kevin , The reserve keeps the lower jaw for their records as you know. I'm sure once they're done with it I can make a plan to get it to you. Might cost you a beer though beer

Cheers

Thanks everyone. The really cool part of these Buffalo hunts are that the majority of the funds generated are used by the reserve for anti poaching. In this case mainly Rhino anti poaching. This war , just like all wars are fought with money , and the reserves need every cent they can get.
I've been contacted by some hunters to put together a dagga boy hunt for a group of hunters , like 4 x 2 , or 2 x 1 over 10 days. If there's any interest in this from AR members , I'll gladly put an affordable AR package together. PM or e mail me.

Hunting regards
