Thanks for the reply Ahmed, and like I said before, I am truly glad that you guys had such a successful hunt. Masaailand is my playground and, every day, I am extremely grateful for that.

Great report, great trophies and an excellent story. We'll likely be hunting with Piet next July and I can see that we have a lot to look forward to. Thanks for all the great pictures.

Ahmed, sorry if I wasn't clear.

As I said your father bears a remarkable similarity to a friend of mine (his name....is Kanti), and looking at the pictures of your father with his trophies was for me like looking at pictures of my friend Kanti.
The similarity is exceptional.

I am taking liberty to post Pic of Lion taken by the other hunters in camp while we were there. It will give an idea of the trophy quality available in the area.

Indeed Paddy was very pleased as they had four male lions to choose from on the fifth day of hunt. On the other hand we had to work very hard and Paddy use to make fun about how cold and miserable we looked after spending the whole night in blind. However, after we got our lion we took our PH and vehicle staff for a well earned break into Trangire Park where we spend the night in comfort of Sopa lodge while Paddy was getting cold sitting in blind for Leopard that his client desperately wanted.

Hi Ahmed,

Catching up on missed reports...WOW what a GREAT "Classic East African Safari, congratulations. I love the lesser kudu.

Where is the "red dam" located, wondering if it is the one at the southern end of Lokisale that Adam was putting in when I was there in Dec-05.

And who is the pretty young lady in the group picture? Just something about a girl in camo! Smiler

Bill

This is one of the finest hunt reports that I have ever read and the pics are incredible. That picture of the lion in the park is excellent, he looks to be very big and appears to have some years on him. Congrats to you and your father on an incredible hunt!

M70Nut – Thanks.

Bill - I don’t think that it will be the same dam that you describe. The Red dam is right in the heart of Simanjiro Kitangare GCA and this area has long been with Luke Samaras, I don’t think that Adam has anything to do with this area. In fact Luke and Adam’s companies have a long border dispute, I remember when we briefly met Adam at the Arusha airport he asked us not to poach in his area during our hunt. When we mentioned this in our hunting camp, all three PHs there failed to see the funny side of it. Paddy told us that he confiscated a trail cam last year, which according to him was set on a bait in Luke’s area by one of Adam’s PH. I guess the boundary needs to be firmly ascertain by the game department.

The lady in picture is Cheryl the lovely wife of Tim who were the other hunters in camp. She shot a magnificent 45" buffalo beside other great trophies.

Do you know how many lions Luke took in Simanjaro in 2008?

Thanks everyone for the nice comments.

Brett, there were two good lions that I saw collected when I was in camp. My PH later told me that the two subsequent 21 days safaris were also successful with good lion so that makes four that I am aware of.

Great hunt and report!!

I would really love a Lesser Kudu, well done!

I found is interesting that you thought the PMP 7mmRM ammo was loaded hot. Its one cartridge that doesnt reach it potential in PMP factory loads (somchem poweders dont seem to like it)and usually runs a bit slower than other brands.

You may very well be right, I only say it was loaded hot because it causes a sticky bolt in my styer after firing, but then there could be other reasons for that.
