We made it to Kambako's camp this afternoon, and though we did have some airline trouble off and on, we arrived with all of our bags. The stay at African Sky was just wonderful, and upon shooting the rifles, they all seem to be spot on.

There are a few cats feeding already, as 3 of us are hunting leopard, and the area looks good. They have been burning quite a bit, but just by flying over, the place is gorgeous. I can't even describe the camp itself. WOnderful place with incredible view. I am writing this about 2:45 Am as I was awakened by a noise outside my mesh. When I looked out, it was BULLY, the local bull hippo grazing just a few steps away. We are all to hit the road early tomorrow to see what the day brings us. This is a special place...

Glad you're "in" and that everything is looking good. Good to know African Sky is operating to expectations; I'll be there in 5 weeks. Please relate the airline problems, when you get a chance, and here's to a great safari. beer

Day 1 mid-day. We have a nice tom on bait. He was feeding before dark every night until 2 nights ago. He is now coming just after dark. We really would like to get him on camera in daylight, so we are building a hide shortly and going to try a walk in in the morning. He was on trail cam for 2 hours after daylight today. A lot of praying tonight!

Almost got a nice kudu this morning, but two youngsters blew through him before we got completely set. This place is unbelievably beautiful. Well...off to lunch and to build a leopard hide...

We know what beer in the morning generally equates to! I'm hoping no hungry hyenas ate the thing like your last Spots!

Go find you a big bully sable now..pressure's off.

Looking forward to hearing how this turns out. Good luck, Tim!

OK...here's what happened. We walked in to our blind just before 5AM. When we could see the cat was not there, and I thought, "here we go again, and I am taking Stu down with me." We had planned to stay about an hour, but 15 minutes later, I spotted the cat about 60 yards to the left of our bait in the wide open walking to the bait. I pointed him out to Stu, and he told me to just wait. The cat sat down for a few minutes, and then he walked to the base of the small tree where the bait was. SHortly, he stood and began to feed (the bait was hung like a lion bait where he had to reach up to eat, but not climb). My cameraman was rolling the whole time, and we waited on light to get better. The cat sat down, got up fed again, etc. Finally I got the thumbs up from everyone, I waited another 30 seconds and put one right behind his shoulder while he was standing. He rolled, attacked the bait with a vengeance and then ran off about 100 yards growling. We waited a few minutes, followed him up, and that was the end of the story. He was dead just by some brush. I couldn't be happier. We went out for a while after breakfast and got on some sable, and there was a beautiful 41"+ bull, but he didn't have secondary horn growth and they don't shoot them out of herds here, so we walked away. It was tough...off for a nap...

Finally, nemesis conquered.

Picking up that cat in the bear hug pose and smiling for pictures is as good as it gets.

Congrats on the fast start.

Great cat Tim.
Congratulations.
It seems that around this air strip is quite a good area. Shot a great buff there two years ago.
Such a leopard would definitely be a good reason for going back to Niassa...

Nice! Beautiful cat and taken properly. Leopard hunted in daylight is my favorite African hunt.
