Just completed a safari with a first timer to Africa. He had purchased my Roan, Sable & Buffalo package for this year. This fine young chap had specifically stated that the quality of hunt and experience should be priority and very much would like to try for a black Sable. An animal that he held in very high esteem and one that dominated his thoughts of Africa when visiting his friend Ule's trophy room.

His friend Ule an old African hand advised him to take the first mature Sable in the 40 inch margin that he came across and stated that in his many years of hunting his best was a 43 inch specimen from Zimbabwe.

The first bull Sable that the First Timer ever came across measured over 48 inches and adhering to both his friends and my advise he took this magnificent specimen. The beauty of free range is that you never are sure what stands around the next corner on any one day. I had never seen this bull prior to this safari.

Incidentally he took his Buffalo within three hours of the safari and this great dagga boy was very resident and easy to find. Roan was taken on day two and he hunted a selection of very fine trophies indeed.

I have loads of pictures of sunsets and birds and stuff and PM me if you want to see them.

Wow Eeker that sable is amazing! Fantastic trophies and it will be tough to top the quality of animals he took on that safari! Well done Andrew!

Beautiful sable and a tough looking old dagga boy.

I like that the bushbuck also. I assume that the bushbucks in Zambia get darker coats as they get older like the ones in South Africa.

That is a stud of a Sable. The bushbuck looks exceptional too. Does he have any idea how fortunate/lucky that he is? Many folks hunt Africa many times and never get the kind of trophies that he has there. Well done Andrew. Bruce

Congratulations to the hunter and PH, Andrew. Those are great trophies. What a Sable! What an Oribi!

I can only hope to take such a Sable some day!

I think this new hunter is probably 'hooked' on Africa now. If this doesn't do it, nothing will.

Congratulations to you and your hunter on another very fine bag of great trophies. Wonderful testimony to the success of your management model .
That old bull looks remarkably like the one you photographed a couple of years ago except he's lost a bit in battle. No doubt his genes are well established in your area for the future.

Great hunt for anyone - first timer or not! Although I am not a fan of the really old dagga boys, the sable and other animals were top notch IMO.
