Mike ScottNot cheap; I've seen a couple of full on custom builds from scratch. As far as I know there are no cheap commercial break actions that will work. I have a good bolt single shot 50 BMG for sale in the ads.

BiebsI would imagine a big 50 would be too much pressure for a break action gun.

boom stickRob made a 12gfh double rifle but I think that may top out at 40k psi and you might want to tap out at 30k psi. The option you may want to examine is the falling block. Rare and expensive that size but doable. I would want Bailey Bradshaw to make mine in a falling block double! I think it is strong enough to go full tilt with 50 BMG. I don't know if he would want to take the project but he sure has the skill.

dpcdThe cheapest 50s are the ones that mount on to AR-15 lower frames. They are bolt action, single shots.
But, yes, you can shoot 50 BMG ammo from a regular 12 gauge break open shotgun; I am not kidding. And you will live to tell about it. Of course, the bullet will tumble out the muzzle, but the gun will still be intact.
50 BMG pressures are no more than anything else; it is just that you have a lot of surface area for that pressure to act against, and you have over 200 grains of powder to make gas, in the event of a gas release. I have seen a few blown up M85 Machine guns and it not pretty; a lot of gas to deal with. I do reload 50 BMG.
To answer your question though, it is no.

cal pappasTom:
Yes, a 4-bore is big enough. I sold an 8-bore harpoon gun, built on a 4-bore frame about a year ago. It would take extensive work on the breech block and extractor, but it could be done. It weighed 22 pounds with a short barrel as it was so thick. I know to whom I sold it and can look into it if you wish.

boom stickHow about breech and not break open?
Has anyone made a breech load 50 big cannon? Seems that that would not be a rifle and be legit? Put a set of wheels and a scope on it.
