They zero in on you using their great hearing and as its not a normal bush noise it makes them toey. No I cant silence the shutter.

I have been getting a lot of photos and videos but its a pita to upload to host them hence I get a bit lazy at times.
This stag near 200 in bed was a photo essay subject at 70 eventually.




This pic or part of the original was a chance happening that unfolded after a long stalk to another stag.

Ridiculously good photos! Im not sure those outside NZ and Aus could know how hard it is under our conditions to get such pics. Its harder than most of what you see in National geographic.

A pom last week reckoned our sambar ground wasnt any different to the cover that he hunts in England. Some just dont know.

Given that the basic principles of hunting are the same everywhere, this Pom thinks that the pom who believes stalking in our bush is the same as stalking in the UK has never hunted Sambar.

I reckon you are on the money mate. I have hosted Pom and Irish here,they found out the truth ha ha. Btw both shot stags but they had to work.

Took some "on knees work" to close the gap on this stag in his berry bed.



Foliage got in the way big time.

That last one though Gryph, is a hunting photo big time! its that moment through the scrub where you have little time to decide to take the shot in the gap.

You got it Shanks,fuck me it took a long circuitous route to get to to where I took the pics from and they (two boys) sussed me below them coming through the timber and rocks. As you know the sights your camera sees through trees isn't the same as your vision. They looked great with the early morning sun on them.

Took a heap of this motley bastard,he has three points on one beam too.He was in bed when I found him by accident.

I think Id love that timber and rock country. Just that photo alone makes me feel like it would bet great hunting ground.

It has its good and also its bad and when the shit hits the fan they head to the bad. You only have to go over the hill a little and it is bad lol.
