Highly upgraded T-33 project. Ultimately failed to find a market. Looks like it would have been great little plane. Kinda like a stylish A-10 or a souped-up Lear Jet.

With all of the positive aspects listed, one has to wonder why it failed.

I guess with out all of the advantages of procuring a new design and build with all the associated contract costs it did not meet the normal military purchase requirements

Boeing is on a roll. First the 737 Max disaster, doors falling off in flight, etc, and now their Starship is stuck at the ISS. with no projected return date scheduled.its’s already 3 weeks past it’s supposed return date with no end in sight.

In reality most projects put forward regardless of the company involved never end up proceeding to production. The military procurement market is a highly movable target.

I agree. When Boeing bought the rights, it may have been them owning it so they could bury it to stifle competition vs a new build they were contemplating. But, on the other hand, Boeing was heavily involved in upgrades to the B-52 and KC-135 over many years. Getting involved in another upgrade would be consistent. Who knows.

Many different types could have been converted including the P-80 series and the Grumman Panther/Cougar series. The latter looking like a much easier upgrade affecting mainly the engines and inlet fairings.
