Hi guys
Based on the great pics being posted on JJHACK's wild boar thread I thought I would throw up something similar for red stags - I know there have been some good ones taken by members!

Don't get me wrong I am no sentimentalist or some sad deluded PETA campaigner.

But its so sad to see such once magnificent beasts slumped on the floor, covered in blood and with the light permanently gone from their eye.

Boggy

I hope you have that stag properly displays on your wall at home some where. He's a cracker!

Time spent planning is never wasted and is always the key to making life easier. I hope you appreciate that now Wink

What worth can you place on life's riches if they weren't gained thru your own effort?

Now that is a real philosophical question.

I can never figure out why people feel the need to pose with a dead deer and a rifle. Its not as if someone is going to think yuo've clubs the damn things to death with a fence post. rotflmo

Had the stag with all the fencing wire managed to get himself free or did you have to slot him entangled?

Smiler no not this time - it was out of season (we stop hunting January 1st) - was just playing with camera and scope.

Monastery-Forester it is improved No.1 - Zeiss No.11 at 12x mag - BTW shows quite nice how one can use a reticle when judging distance - if stag's torso would fit between the point of the vertical post and end of the side bar it would be 200m away - roughly I'd say it was app. 350m (way too far for me).

Mouse: if I see your hunting clothes, your guns and scopes, your dogs - than I think, that you have in Slovenia the same hunting traditions like in Germany/Austria. Is that because you have a long K u K - tradition?

Refers to the Austrian/Hungarian double monarchie. Slovenia was a part of the Austrian Hungarian empire.

I believe the "K u K" refers to the titles the Austrian Emperor held in Austria (Emperor - "Kaiser" in German) and in Hungary (King - "Koenig" in German). Thus "K u K".

I think you'll find it came off Cannock Chase. or to be more precise just off Cannock Chase. Smiler

The Norfolk stuff is of lesser quality.

Tophand, you're talking nonsense. While some of the Cannock chase animals are undoubtedly good the Norfolk Reds are in a different class altogether. I've worked in both places and studied both populations closely.

BTW did anyone see a recent posting on this forum entitled 'Operators Fist'. It's contents may bear close scrutiny given the current incursion...

zaitsev - that's very interesting. Would love to see any pics etc you have on the populations.

Are there any defining local features for the two populations?

Hi Gab, I've no pics of the Norfolk chaps but have a pic of one of our local (Cannock) stags. Give me a few mins and I'll try and post it.

The Cannock animals arose from a couple of introductions in the 60s (accidental) when hounds panicked a number of captive animals out of a fenced enclosure on the Chase near Rugeley. I was told by the then owner of the animals (now sadly deceased) that they were of park origin but I cannot remember which one.

Both populations exhibit the 'rear tine' from below the tops (hopefully the photo will show it) from time to time.

Back in a mo.

Typically the one I want is on my work PC. This one is of a group of young stags and hinds near Cannock Chase. The poor quality (body wise) was a result of overpopulation at the time. Will try and find the rest tommorow.

I am sure that Top hand is not accusing me of poaching as that is a criminal offence and my self a respected member of the Deer Sector. This stag from wiltshire was the biggest wild stag shot there according to Ritchard Prior he was only one point off a gold.

maybe like yourself a bit of clarity is needed
Said Stag was not seen first then stalked and shot
this stag was heard roaring at first in the early morning dawn chorus
then i stalked into it by using the roars and odd coughing sounds it made
this was the way i knew it was an old beast
from there i followed slots & noise of it moving in the undergrowth, to actually pin point it in the undergrowth was the easy bit, as saplings just 30 yards in front of me were moving in the sky line
the stalker and good friend in question was with me, as it was his ground,
he stalked along with me as he knew i was onto a good beast and wanted to be part of it
just neither of us knew how good a beast , as we had not seen it,
just from the signs knew it was a good heavy bodied and possibly old beast
this was goods enough determine to stalk for
shot decision would be made on sight as to wether trigger was pulled
I heard it,I located it, I stalked it , I identified it , I pulled the trigger
i earn't it Wink
but you are right his beast he can drag it......it was 425lbs jumping

Dickie Boy

Perhaps you would care to resubmit your post in an more appropriate manner? The infant school use of grammar and syntax makes for unintelligible reading.

I suppose it all boiled down to if you can't make the effort to post in a readable manner, I see little reason to make the effort to try and read it.

If what you have to say is worth the effort of reading. It must surly be worth the effort on your part to make it intelligible in the first place.
