wildboarCatalonia bans corridas
Hi, while I personally don't like corridas, nevertheless I'm somewhat worried knowing that they will be banned in a part of Spain and possibly in France too. A French member of parliament, who wrote a bill against corridas, recently stated that keeping traditions is no longer an excuse; wrong, cruel behaviours against animals must be stopped in the name of progress. I feel that it's an utterly do-good point of view so, what comes next? Hunting?

Cazador humildeWe saw a corrida in 2007 in tiny Montoro, Spain. We sat front row in small arena and the first bull out of the gate ran to our side and when he stopped, he threw sand up on my wife's dress. It was fantastic.
I can't say I'm any officianado, really I've just read too much Hemingway, but I too am dissappointed in the arrogance of such bunny huggers that have been successful in shutting down a tradition that is literally centuries old. I refuse to believe that the rest of Spain will follow.
The more we hide real death, the more out of touch we become with real life.
I am very annoyed that the bunny huggers have been successful and most of them seem to be from outside of Spain. If the Spanish wish to end it so be it .But the outsiders have no right to interfere.

SGraves155Actually a very sad thing for those who really consider the plight of the animal. Now, instead of living to 5 years of age, in the wild of the ranch, and then getting to fight to survive, the young bull will be castrated and turned into packaged meat at 18 months of age.
Who would make such a choice if they were somehow the bull calf?

True statement in deed!

mouse93Guys don't forget that "Catalunya no es Espana" and that there are possibly other major things hiding behind this and I would be VERY surprised if they'd banned the corridas in the rest of the country.

BoghossianThis is 100% politically motivated, la fiesta brava is a great Spanish tradition and Catalunya is doing its best to differentiate itself from the rest of the country in an effort to gain independence one day. Bog all to do with animal cruelty.
I'm glad I went to the Monumental in Barcelona to catch a bullfight last year, it was a great spectacle. My favorite remains mounted bullfighting.

That is exactly the point. It is a political issue that is being heavily manipulated. the problem is that it gives ammo to the people that want to ban hunting fishing etc

BoghossianThe most interesting part was presenting a 'petition' signed 180,000 people around the world to the regional assembly. Just goes to show how these 'pointless' internet polls can have a vicious effect sometimes.

Von GruffWould be more fair if they left the bull with the tips on his horns, either that or blunt the tips of the darts and swords.

ovnyHello, I'm Spanish but I do not like bullfights, but I respect the tradition. The Catalan parliament's decision to ban bullfighting is a political fact and attack everything that has to do with Spain. In Catalonia, will continue to hold celebrations in which the bull is still the protagonist, like the bull embolism (the bull put two balls of fire in the horns and get to go blind). I do not believe that the Catalans will import the animal suffering, what they want is to attack Spain. Nothing is something political.
Sincerely,
Oscar.

It is an excellent point of view. How else are we supposed to educate those that fail to grasp that cruelty is just that cruelty.
If we all stuck with tradition Cock Fighting would still be all the rage.
