Nordic2Grousehunt in swedens alpine mountains
We made a grousehunt on skies both with pointingdogs and stalking with rimfire rifles.

HannayThanks! The photos are great. And it's nice to have something to discuss in this forum besides an accidentally-posted-in-the-wrong-place query!
I take it the photos were all taken in Tarradalen? The area looks beautiful.
I particularly liked the photo with snowmobiles and "dog trailers on skies". I don't think I've ever seen such a unit. I have a four-dog trailer I can tow behind a truck or jeep, but... never thought about needing one to tow behind a snowmobile!

HannayI did have one other question, though... do you shoot the grouse with the rifles right in front of the dogs? They must hold to point pretty well if that's the case.

Nordic2Yes i posted the pictures in part because of the slow down in this forum. Yes all photos is from the surroundings of Tarradalen ,Kvikkjokk. My brother built the snowmobiletrailer himself the dogs cant run behind the sm for 30km and the trailer holds them warm and rested. My brother hunts with the pointing dogs and a shotgun i use my rifle to stalk the grouse a bit away from them. For the older dog(10y) we can shoot it with a 22wmr rifle not allowed for a young dog in training(not very traditional British

. The snow make most of the scents go away so the dog can point them out at 70m.

Nordic2Snowmobiles are only used to get close to the hunting area they are not allowed for hunting and you must transport your rifle/shotgun with bolt separated on the trailer.

HannayThanks for the explanation - makes sense. Indeed, it is not very traditional British game bird hunting!
By the way is that a
fjällripa or
dalripa or...?
20 March 2016, 12:57
Nordic2Fjällripa the one with a bandit mask around the eye, dalripa is all white in the winter. Most birdsituations with dog are close and shotgun are used some days the birds fly at 50-60m and the bird is looking at you then you come that close then it calls for a different approach. Autumn hunting for grouse with dogs is much easyer. Do you still live in Stockholm?

PondoroThe mountains look nice...much like what we have..
I hunt ptarmigan over setters in the fall and occationally train my gordon setter during the winter skiing..

HannayThanks for the clarification on the grouse identification. You asked:

No; I moved back to Oklahoma last August. Though I was able to participate in a couple drevjakts last October, in Skåna and near Finspång

Nordic2Drevjakt is a nice kind of hunting
