No doubt that'll kill a groundhog or as we call em out here chucks.

But it will not be devastaing on them. Oh at the closer ranges it will do fine but at longer ranges it'll just put em to sleep.

i think shooting g-hogs with flat nose bullets or pistol bullets @ 3000 fps is devastation...

the 204 will be g-hog assassination.

nice group!

Sweet shooting. I have a .204 and it most assuredly devastates grounhogs.

The one I shot last week was one of the unfortunates which had his noggin turn into mush by a 32 grain V-Max.

Start to shoot those chucks in the 400 to 700 range and put the 204 up against a big 6, 25 and or 7 and or big 30 and then you'll begin to no what devastation is!

At range the 204 will kill them if all is right, but it won't be spectacular and or devastating.

the thread was intended for the guy that goes by the name groundhog devastion,,I have a 300RUM that pushes 200 MKs at 3200 and a 25-06 that will throw 100 NBT`s at 3435 and a 6mm that does 3600 with 70NBT`s,,so dont get smart with me.I know about devistation, and at 400 yards that load will hold its own against any of the 22 calibers up through crows and pd,,and thats all I ask of it,besides the money i win shooting 12 ounce Sams choice aluminum cans at 350-400.

That's an excellent 10 shot group, at pretty impressive velocity too.
I see lots of guys getting good groups with the 204. Something must be right with that chambering.

Don't get smart with me, I wasn't getting smart with you. You said something it could of been taken more than one way. Or I guess we're talking telepathy here now?

My point was that after 400 yards the big boys took over and out to there the lil guys will kill but not much more.

2 different people thinking of two different things so don't get smart with me either....

Man that is a hell of an impressive 10 shot gp.--probably the best i've ever seen. U seriously oughtta send that into the bullet/gun/scope/powder company. Bet it'd net u some freebies, and some publicity.

mr.big!! Loved the post!! Long live the .204!! Yes I love DEVASTATION and can acheive it with a myriad of chamberings and projectiles,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,some of which would be 22-250 loaded with 52 grain SPEER HP ahead of 40.0 grains of W760,25-06 loaded ahead of 90 grain WIN PEP(not available anymore as a component but undoubtedly the most GROUNDHOG DEVASTATING bullet ever offered for public sale......................DAMN!! left out 36.0 grains of IMR 3031(.243 Winchester) and the DEVASTIONAL SPEER 75 grain HP!! Now on up to the bigger stuff!! 95 grain VMAXS in 6.5 are all right but don't trip my trigger! They do the deal but can be beat at long range! The littler guys can cause as much DEVASTATION!!!.........but then again, "How dead is dead??" HOWEVER the 140AMAXS are a force to be reckoned with!! Accurracy and dependability at LONG RANGE!!!!!!Notice the catch word, "LONG"!! 115 SPEERS in 7mmMag :????????............Ain't no sense in needing that kind of DEVASTATION!! Wink..........go on up to the 30's!! 110VMAXS or 125 gr TNT's from the 300SAUM at 3650 or 3550 respectively ar BAD TO THE BONE....................What bone?/???? Was there hide attached????????How many flips on the video or "how many pieces in mid air" were there?????????????????? I LOVE VARMINTING!! BTDT!! Not enough times so far! Looking for the next fest where I can "airmail invitations home" to groundhogs or as a friend once put it,(after using a 300RUM to "obliterate a groundhog" at 547 yard).........."just sent him to meet JESUS!!"

GD what 6.5 are you shooting the 140 a-max in? I just loaded up some to try in a rem 260 with 9 twist.I don't ground hog hunt anymore but have taken deer out to 450 yds with the 120.
My buddie got a 204 in a 26 in savage last year and he hasn't gotten it to shoot very well in fact he hasn't even brought it back to the range in a while.
Mr big nice group,is that at 100yds if so how do those bullets group farther out like 3 or 400 yds?

Thanks for the info,
Yes I live in newton just a few miles from hickory.Let me know when you get down this way again and we can have a cup of coffee.
The 260 I have is the rem bdl with 24 in barrel I have never tried anything above 120 gr bullets so far and was wanting to try the 140 a-max since I heard they were so accurate. And wondering about the 9 in twist.I allready have some loaded up with different powder to try next week.Going with IMR 4831,IMR 4350 and 7828 to start with.Use IMR 4064 with 85,100 and 120 and all will shoot one holers.

owensby, Stick some VARGET under those 100 grainers!! 41-43 grains!! Chances are you'll be amazed!! VARGET has to be the most versatile powder ever invented!! Thought there would never be and improvement in the "versatile" category after IMR 3031 but Varget disproved that idea!! Wink Big Grin GHD

Charlie has stock in Varget, or loves it because the name is close to Viagra.....

Try 43.5 grains of 4064 behind a 100 grain Bullet in a 260... that gives me 3350 fps MV in a 22 inch Ruger and 3450 fps in a 26 inch Rem VLS....

Thanks fellows
seafire been useing the 4060 for years eith 85's,100's and 120's works great.45 grs-85,43grs-100,and 42 grs 120.My rifle is a rem bdl with 24 in barrel.with 9 twist.these will shoot one holers at 100 yds and less than an in at 300yds.
Just wanted to try the 140's to see what they would shoot in the 9 twist,I tried IMR 4350,4831 and 7828 yesterday the best group I got 3/4 in. was with 47 grs 7828 at 2712 fps.close to book load.
Next time I go to a 1000yd range I am going to try to see if I can hit anything with the 120's and 140's.Just for fun.
What twist does the rem vls have? in the hornady manuel it says they used a rem in 8 twist, but I have had a mtn rifle and now have a bdl and they are 1;9 twist.
Shot a deer year before last at 442 lazered yds with the 120 gr.It took about 12 steps and dropped.
How does varget and 4064 work with the 140's??

Owensby,

4064 works fine with the 140s in my rifles...

however, for more velocity and still getting an accurate load, I have played with IMr 4350.. at 44 grains for an MV of 2750 out of my Rugers...

these have a one in 8 twist....

one of the best kept secrets in the 6.5 bore is Remington's Corelokt 140 grain Bullets...

Don't ask me why, but in each of my 6.5 bore rifles, regardless of chambering... the Remington 140's actually consistently out shoot Sierra matchkings, and also out shoot the 140 grain AMax also....

I haven't tried the 140 Bergers, but the Corelokts in 140 grain are a deadly accurate bullet.. nothing glitzy, but they are both accurate and deadly.. so you might want to give a few of those a try....

I remember shooting some of the 140 core-loc out of the 260 ruger I had and they did shoot great will have to get some and try them in the 1;9 twist.I remember they had 2 conalures on them.
I did load up some more of the a max with 4350 I didn't get but 2524 fps (just checked 3 shot round) and book says 2715 with 24 in barrel so shouldn't have any problem working up to 44 grs.
Book gives the same 2715 for 44 grs of IMR 4831 but I only got 2658 so theres room for improvement there.
Was going to try 4064 but book gives only 37.1 grs for 2600 fps I want at least 2700 fps Thats 5 grs lower than I am shooting with the 120 gr bullets.
Thanks for the tips.
