Hi, I want a bipod for my 308, and was wondering what the range of opinions was out there. I am thinking of a 9-13" for prone. The 2 brands I have been considering were Harris and shooters ridge. Any thoughts. Thanks Mike

micmac, I use the 6-9" Harris on my 'dog' shoots, works well off the bench as well as prone I believe in life, liberty, and pursuit of the S.O.B.'s that threaten them.

Mike I would no doubt go with the 9-13" model. I've got two Harris in that length and I love them. I do like Harris and have not used the other brand you mentioned. Harrris owned the market share for eons and now there are some other companies making them. Good luck and good shooting Mark D

Harris with swivel option for uneven ground. I'm also bipod shopping and either the 9-13" Harris or the B-square are on my short list. and I'm leaning towards the B-square because it's only $35 from Cabela's, but I want to know where it's made first... I've shot off of Harris bipods for years and they're second to none... except in price. You can't tell the difference between my new Shooters Ridge (formerly Outers I believe) and the Harris. Go with the Shooter's ridge, the only thing that'll know the difference is your wallet.

I've got the longer Harris, it collapses to about 13" I think. It's a little to long for prone shooting, but I'm a tall fellow, so the height off the bench is fine for me, also sitting in a blind for coyotes with it is just about right with it extended.

micmac, For p-dogs the Harris is great. For coyotes & bcats you need a pair of sticks, either Stoney or just wood homemade type. They are better for the uneven ground that is common. They also adjust to different heights. The Harris have springs that play a tune when you move them. The sound just does not make coyotes run in..but away. Many times I stand up when shooting coyotes and use a monopod made from a paint roller extension pole. It adjusts to any length needed. A tall bipod is just not quite as good for coyotes because it is hard to swing for the shot. A tall bipod is great for pdogs and especially big game. Bottom line is your need several types of sticks. Good hunting, JB

I have a Caldwell sitting model on one of my rifles. It is very lightweight and swivels. I also have 2 Harris bi-pods (one fixed, one swivel), and one Shooters Ridge. The Shooters Ridge is identical to the Harris, except that it doesn't swivel. If you want the swivel feature (recommended) spend the extra $20 bucks for the Harris.
That is why I bought the Caldwell's---no springs. You can take the springs off and put thin tubing over them to quiet them, or just buy another brand. Have not tried the Advanced Technology Featherweight (Cabela's), but my next one will probably be a B-Square. I have had problems with the durability of some of their aluminum "no gunsmith" scope mounts in the past, so I am a little leary of their bi-pods. But you never know until you try them all...

There are three things I can say about the shooters ridge: 1)Made 2)In 3)CHINA The Rock Rest is the same thing, another f'ing chinese copy of a Harris, but the Rock Rest is the supposed brand of another identical made in China copy of a harris that WalMart sells. I would buy the harris. I found a "clone" last fall while deer hunting. It is very similar to the harris, but I would rather buy american made.
