Got a Thanksgiving Day gift from my Son who's in the Spirit Business- "Old Potrero" 18th Century Whiskey made by the Anchor Distilling Co. in San Fran. Same people that make the Anchor Steam Beer. Quite mild considering it's 124.2 proof, I usually just swill my Jim Beam rye whiskey in a manhattan mix.

wild turkey makes a good rye.... as does jim beam.... i prefer it over the canadian's and the kentucky bourbons...its not as sweet, but makes a good sipping whiskey.... when my friend pete skains from san angelo and i get together, a bottle or 2 will dissapear in as many days... go big or go home ........ I like a good rye from time to time if I can find any. Hard to find around here. BH1 There are no flies on 6.5s!

Damn, I love the stuff. A little water and a nice heavy glass to put it in....yum. Awhile ago I had one that was made in Quebec, the company is closed now I think. It was the most sublime hard stuff I've ever had. I sure wish I could remember the name of it, I'd track down a few bottles if I could. the chef

Tried the "Old Potrero" in a manhattan mix and its got a different taste than what I'm use to. It's ok with a splash of water to temper it a bit but I'll stay with Jim Beam Rye, sweet vermouth and a dash of bitters. Sure does give ya a buzz though.

Old Overholt is the best value for the money by my reckoning, Van Winkle Reserve rather than Potrero is my favorite when I'm cash flush. Wild Turkey is in between and I find Beam lesser than Overholt by a large margin and it even costs more. Everybody's got opinions and them's mine. Cheers, Overholt with a splash of water tonight.
