I am not talking about "medical pot". Just plain legalized pot, just like legalized booze. The same problems were becoming rife all over this country's big cities when we had prohibition of booze, but getting rid of the enormous profits for gangsters by legalizing it helped do away with that being so serious.

One of the reasons your area is so screwed up is the eco-terrorists. If they hadn't destroyed mining, oil exploration, and forest products as viable industries, your area would be a lot better off.

And though you don't think those guys now jailed for simple possession would pay taxes, the truth is they would have no choice. Without our gving them a roof over their heads and three squares a day in jail, along with free college degrees, free medical care, and so on, all at your and my expense, they'd have to earn their own livings or starve.

Even pot heads figure that out by the time they get to middle age.

If pot was legal, who would even care if they earned that living by growing pot and selling it to markets, just like farmers now do with corn, or potatoes, apples, or anything else?

And BTW, I HAVE lived in that area and watched what has happened to it. I also do not use pot, or any other illegal drugs. Why else do you think I am concerned with fixing it? What we have been doing has not worked, does not work, and will not work. So we need to try to find something which will. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out.

Anyway, it is obvious the "war on drugs" hasn't worked, so what bright ideas do you guys have to straighten northern California up...ideas that might actually be implemented and work in the real world, that is....?

I understand that...I just moved here 15 months ago from the Green (or Emerald) Triangle. It is not simple, and the longer it goes on, the more complex it becomes.

That still leaves the question, If you are dead-set against trying legalization, how WOULD YOU improve things?

either fully legalize it in all of the USA, or fully enforce it in all of the USA. Humboldt allows 99 plants and six pounds of pot per person and medical card. Absurd.

There is so much illegal abuse of the medical pot that it is all a joke now. We just had a Bulgarian busted with 600 pounds of bud and hundreds of plants....The DA took the cash they confiscated and gave him three years parole....He [Bulgarian] kept all the equipment and all the supplies...

No one ever goes after anyone for not paying taxes on the pot they grow...Billions come out of Trinity, Mendo, and Humboldt with not a tax....Tax the legal or bust the crooks...period...no in between.

The medical pot should not be grown in every backyard on a block. Personally, I cannot make my own painkillers so why can everyone else that wants to smoke pot.
