Where would man be without the horse??
No advanced civilization has occurred in the absence of the horse. Neither in sub-Saharan Africa, nor the Americas, nor Australia/south-Pacific islands. Only in Europe, Asia, North Africa, and the middle east have true civilizations developed. The horse certainly goes along with the wheel. Without the wheel no real advanced civilization has developed.

Guess you could argue donkeys and oxen went with the wheel. Big Grin Horses were always considered more of an elite ride.

I would certainly prefer a horse to a donkey or ox...and a Mule beats the hell out of a donkey..

If it wasn't for the horse my dad and other old timers would have had to walk 5 miles to school in 3 feet of snow or so the all told me growing up...I told my kids 2 miles.. Wink

If I had to be without horses, I would curl up and die..

Two or three weeks ago, I bought a 17 or 18 year old rope horse (not registered) just an older rope horse that took some friends of ours kids to the national finals in roping calves and team roping both in high school and college. Those kids have gone pro and needed high doller rope horses..I bought him for an old mans rope horse..Most of my horses over the years came out of tht box like an explosion and ran hard, sore me up these days..This old boy comest out slow and comfortable then picks up a gear or two and puts me in the right spot every time. I made some fast runs on him and and my catch average is up...He meets me at the gate when he hears the kitchen door slam or if a car drives up, he is gentle as can be,loves to be petted, and gives me all he has and that's 110%..He has a home now and will die on my place, but Im betting he will last until he is in his mid to late 20s...

When your near 84 years old and you find one like TJ you know the good Lord is looking down on you. I will be roping off him until one of wears out first..

It is interesting to think of primitive humans hunting horses for food and then gradually (perhaps foals left behind when their mama was killed by humans?) started finding other uses for horses.

Turned out well for both species (at least until PETA decides that "owning" horses is a form of slavery and starts violently protesting).

I think, personally, I learn a lot more from horses, than they will ever learn from me. LOL
