.366torqueWOW!!! Absolutly stunning!!
06 July 2009, 06:31
shootawayExcellent! What will you be hunting,Mike?
06 July 2009, 06:39
MJinesElephant . . . is there anything else to hunt? A .510 diameter 535 grain bullet clipping along at between 2250 and 2300 fps ought to get 'r done!
Mike
Seriously flawed:
1. 500 Jeffery
2. A standard M98 action opened up for 500 Jeffery.
My condolences.
06 July 2009, 06:43
MJines. . . save the condolences for Babar.
I know, I really had my heart set on a .378-700 Tonto Totonka Beltless Magnum with a 1-in-84 twist but had to settle for second best.

boom stickDamn the "flaws"...
This is a major extended pinky rig.
Cycle it 1,000 times at the speed you would with a jumbo in sights and see if it misfeeds any rounds.
If it is 0 misfeeds for 1,000 cycles it would give me confidence.
Anyone ever see what their misfeed ratio is?
06 July 2009, 07:06
Rick RBeautiful rifle! Jumbos should be lined up for the honor to be the first shot with it.

06 July 2009, 07:08
MJinesB-S,
Tomorrow at the club, after a round of polo, over crumpets and tea, the gentlemen and I at the club will discuss the misfeed ratio question that you have posed.
Mike
06 July 2009, 07:13
jeffeossogood on ya, mike.. excellent rifle .. loks great, and being a wiebe, it will feed perfectly!

This ratio is something all DG rig owners should know right?
more important than MOA IMHO
Enjoy the tea with extended pinkies

jeffeossowow,, the jackholes are out today .. or i just don't have a sense of humor about it. .. an outstanding rifle, in a worthy caliber, and its a wicked cool taken AND built on a 1909?
I've shaken Mike's hand, and shot with him ... extended pinky my eye.. the man is simply the best off hand shot I've had the pleasure to hunt with .. with the possible exception of Rob ..

I think Rip was infering the superiority of the 500 on the rigby case in terms of no rebate.

MJinesAll in good fun I'm sure. Some like blondes, some like brunettes . . . Some like Ruger's . . . I happen to like Wiebe's.
Thanks for the compliments on the shooting
Mike
MJines,
Thanks for letting me have some fun with you.
Some folks don't get it without the emoticons.
These are for jeffeosso:
It is the most gloriously appointed piece I have ever seen.
Seriously, it is set up perfectly for my tastes:
German Claw mounts with peep on rear base!
No open rear sight blade on the barrel to snag my hand's hasty grab and go.
And every other bell and whistle worth having!
Absolutely marvelous!
Gives even my redneck pinky finger a "schwing!"
If only it were a Magnum Mauser M98 chambered in 500

Mbogo, then I could live with it.

the best and prettiest FN solid in the world is available now from S&H, in just the caliber and weight needed for ...
The best and prettiest 500 Jeffery M98 Mauser in the world, pictured above.
Excellent plan to keep those 535-grainers down to 2250 to 2300 fps in the standard M98.
I have become enamored of the same bullet in the 500 Mbogo at 2600 fps, in a CZ 550 Magnum.

That looks like a very nice rifle.
Are you going to use 535gr bullets or 570's in it?

MJinesSo far I have using 535 grain Woodleigh softs and solids. That is the plan for the time being. I have shot the round nose softs, still waiting on protected point softs to see how those do.

It's just a superb rifle. Best of luck on your hunt.
In my .500 Jeffery, I just use the 535 grain bullets too. I never saw the need to shoot anything heavier.

RobgunbuilderI think I saw that gun or its clone at SCI a few years back. Irregardless, simply beautiful! I love take downs and all the trick metal work is simply stunning. I'd love to shoot that gun and I'll bet its a wonder to hunt with.Congrats!-Rob

chuck375Absolutely stunning rifle. My 500 Jeffrey feeds Woodleigh softs, Barnes TSX's and banded solids, mixed and matched perfectly. I'm sure yours will be smoother, faster and better not to mention better looking.
Congrats on a great gun!

Congratulation with this rifle here.
Its an exciting rifle in all aspects, with many details and a finish that Duane has done to perfection. You must be a demanding client knowing what you REALLY wanted. You could never have been settled with anything less.

dogcatMike,
I hate you. I will not sell you any books to you again unless you promise to post pics of what you shoot with that sweetheart.
07 July 2009, 05:17
ForrestBMike, thanks for posting the photos. The rifle is a real looker.
What is most interesting to me is that Duane built this rifle for his own use on dangerous game. I think when anyone with Duane's knowledge and skill builds a working gun for himself, the rest of us should sit up and take notice as to what's there and what's not. The other thing that is interesting to me is that Duane alone built this rifle - right down to the stippling and engraving. Not many guys can pull off that trick.
I don't get along too well with 500 Jefferys but I can't wait to see you at the range with this one.
