This is the woman that the UN commission will be giving credence to when they convene, which, I think is now. Don't ever believe anyone who says they only want "reasonable" limitations on the private ownership of firearms. Convicted criminals and the mentally deficient are already prohibited from purchashing firearms and the honest man will not commit a crime regardless of the type of firearm he owns. Support the NRA and all politicians who support the 2nd Ammendment of the US constitution. A government that doesn't trust their citizens with a firearm is a government with a twisted agenda and doesn't deserve the trust of the governed.

"I ask, sir, what is the Militia? It is the whole people. To disarm the people is the best and most effective way to enslave them" - George Mason, co-author of the Second Amendment during the Virginia convention to ratify the Constitution

I don't want to completely poo-pooh this potential threat from the U.N., but let me say this: I'm more worried about my local politicians and what they do than the freaking U.N! Overall they are the most in-effective group and waste of billions of dollars ever created. The U.N. would have trouble organizing a one-man rock fight, let alone getting all nations to agree to anything. They are a joke!

I agree with a statement made elsewhere that the UN may be deFacto a "dictatorship mutual protection society" but it's only incompetent dictators that need mutual protection, and the
caliber of people at the UN can't even illegally
sell off their own stamp collection without getting SCREWED by the buyers, then getting caught having sold the collection in the first place...

I recall a Line from a Jimmy Breslin Novel
"The Gang that couldn't shoot straight"

QUOTE:
"These guys couldn't run a gas station at a profit even if they stole the customers cars and held their children for ransom"
(or words to that effect)

But I still don't completely agree that the UN couldn't organize a one-man rock fightSmiler
However I would agree that they'd get a lot of bruised peacekeepers by trying to control a rockfight between four or more children.

Personally I am worried that European countries will use a UN initative to advance individual gun control laws which amount to a de facto ban in their respective countries. European politicians frequently resort to the "international community" as a source for advancing unpopular laws and regulations at home. The European Union is a current example of how each country has given up a portion of its national sovereignty to an appointed "Commission" which legislates in their place, leaving national parliaments to rubber stamp new laws drafted by unelected officials representing a "higher" authority. It is one of the reasons the French voted NO on the new European Constitution, even though it's already a reality for many areas of regulation. If the French, the Germans and the Italians, or even the Finns, end up losing individual gun ownership rights, the world will lose an amazing amount of quality firearms manufacturers and hunters. The UN is a threat in my eyes.
