700 NE or 14 GFH (TM) Login/Join

Long drive and my mind was wandering today.

Seems with some case forming magic you could make a 14 GFH (TM) from 50 BMG brass. The specs are just ten thou here and there from the 700 NE (Thinner rim and slightly smaller casehead)

The 14 gauge is an almost obsolete cart but I thought this could be a great way to use 700 barrels and 700 bullets within SAAMI specs of the 14 Gauge and legal in Ca and for shotgun season in all 50 states. It might get bore-ing shooting deer and turkeys with a shot load or slow slugs Wink

Was thinking of ways to possibly swage the rim of the BMG to the thinner 14 gauge thickness and in the process adding rim diameter for a one piece case.

Monoblocking a 12 gauge to make a stronger higher preasure 14 GFH would be the way to go.

No real advantages over the 12 GFH other than use of 700 barrels and bullets or higher preasure over a stock 12 gauge on a 12 gauge platform.

Any thoughts?

You can reduce bmg base to my 700HE size .775" ok,
which would fit 14 ga chamber with
clearance, with no belt. Now the rim....
If you couldn't swage bmg rims bigger very easy
to get the .830" or so 14ga rim size you could
make these from 700NE brass which is .780" base,
and thin that rim. They are 20 bucks at
Huntingtons I see.Ed

I am sure you meant 700NE and not HE brass at Huntingtons Ed Wink
Although I would be happy to see Huntingtons selling the 700 HE thumb

Yep I can't think and type at the same
time in my old age.The 700NE brass has
a 12ga size rim so it would have
more than needed for 14ga.Ed

The .700RLG which I created about 15 years ago is just the .50BMG blown out to .700 with a shoulder. It was designed for my Barrett semi-auto. Now that was a potent round. It was the first to launch a 1000gr bullet over 3000 fps. Had crazed ideas of sellintg them in those days to the military with ol Ed Plumer of AHR fame. I still have the barrel and some cases.-Rob
