Wow!
Will be interesting to know what the felt recoil will be like and the overall gun weight.
How long is the barrel before the break vents?

Barrel is 21" and the rifle is aproximately 8.5 pounds bare.

I sold my cz 550 .416 Rigby to fund this build, I wanted a more compact .416 than what the cz 550 was...................I do miss my Rigby though, so I have kept all my ammo, dies and brass Wink

PC, Could you please show a closeup pic of the scope base & complete action (from loading side)?

I am not familiar with the Surgeon 1086 action and very interested in flexible (ie more eye relief) scope mounting.

BTW, you can easily 2x or 3x your photo size to just fill the viewing monitor. Unless you are using a cell phone, in which case these are fine and well appreciated.

They are like a Remington 700 but integral recoil lug and Howa type extractor and integral bases. Might be one piece bolt as well

Thanks Mike.

I like that. Very nice action. Obviously not control feed, but a very nice design. That top rail is exactly what I would have liked on my 505 Gibbs. I did add that, but no where near as neat as building the scope rail into the action. I just cannot overstate the confidence I have with my scope mounted an extra inch forward. Even the M70 w/ Leupold base provides more eye relief than the CZ or Ruger fixed receiver scope base.

I look at this and the new TC Ikon and cannot help but think TC missed the mark for a new and modern look. And CZ could have done a much neater job on the bolt-on weaver type base.

4bore,

they were cell phone pics !!

The surgeon actions are very well made and very rugged. Integral bolt handle, Integral lug and rail. They use the M16 extractor......no its not a control round feed action, however I am not to fussed I would take that rifle buff hunting in a heart beat.

I think thats the best mounting set up you can get.

I am having a .500 A2 put together on a Stiller TAC .338 action (in custom rifles there is a fellow who has had a .416 Rigby put together on this action) it will use wyatts center feed, center stack box as reliable as any system out there IMHO.

I do like and appreciate a fine CRF action but ONLY if there mated to certain calibers eg; .375 H&H etc.

I feel a .416 Ruger etc. sits nicely in this type of action from a moral perspective Big Grin

Paul,

Will that Surgeon 1086 take the HS Precision single stack magazine/floor piece?

Karl,

I had a Tobler Heavy Varmint contour in 375 H&H on a bench gun with the RTM Alloy stock but the action was only a Rem 700 with Jewell trigger. Smiler

Mike,

yes they will.........you order your stock inletted for whatever bottom metal you like.....eg HS precision, if you dont go regular floor metal the AI system is better than the HS precision set up IMHO.

Also you can order a "Wyatts center stack center feed box and follower" they are slightly long er OAL than regular rem 700 boxes. I am having one of these units put into a .300 win mag build and the .500 A2 on a stiller tac .338 action that I will get is also using this system.....basically exactly the same as Weatherby MK 5's on the .378 and .460 based rounds a little longer in OAL and you need to just alter the actio na tad to get the yatts extended boxes fitted.....the ultimate for fail proof feeding and reliability Wink

Mistake on weight of bare rifle weighed before and it is 10.12 pounds bare, should be fine in the recoil department.

Cool... almost looks like a "tactical" .416 Ruger!

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

Folks I intend to add the wyatts extended mag box with center feed and stack...same as .378 mk5 based rifles, it's thenext vest thing to crf tuned by a top smith IMHO.
