I bought one of his .600 barrel blanks and it arrived today. 1.5" diameter by 30" long. Now, to get that PH action in and get started.

Man Rich, I read your title and thought how the hell could UPS screw up a steel barrel. I had them include a brake as well did you get that as well?
I know you'll have a ball with the 600OK. It's suprisingly shootable and really puts the hurt on whatever is on the other end. I know you're in for a hell of a good time.

Buy a CZ550 and get the .600Ok going. You'll be older and greyer by the time the PH action arrives. I know I am!-Rob

Wayne, I was going to call you; whaddaya think about building a full length/diameter sniper rifle out of it? Or, Option B; barrel up a Contender...?

Nobody's done a .600Ok Bullpup yet! With 30 inches of barrel you could get a 900gr. going 2700 fps probably.-Rob

that is the plan. We build and shoot these big rifles for the adrenaline rush and the feeling of controlling the uncontrollable.

Rich, I'll build you the Contender but I will let you test fire it. BOOM

A 600 OK sniper sounds cool. You could have Rob make you some long, pointy bullets for it.

I have really gravitated towards the short barrels for the 600's. 18" barrels just handle so well and still have enough velocity to wallop anything. I have two personal ones going now with 18" barrels. One is on the CZ and the other a round-bridge GMA. I'll be taking both to Dallas Safari Club for show and tell.

I've compared 24" to 18" and the loss is about 100 fps. 900 grains at 2,200 or at 2,100, nobody on the receiving end will ever know the difference.

Considering less than 100 yards for game that is pretty cool.

I had a customer take a Kodiak Bear this last summer at a measured 204 yds. with his 600. I think he has a 20" barrel. Although these huge bores are very accurate and consistent, that still takes some nerve and a steady hand.

Sir,

I have no reason to doubt you, but it seems unbelievable

to we minimally informed wanna be hand loaders. It's great

news. I'd like to handle a series of super big bore bolt

rifles with 18", 20", 22" and 24" bbls just to feel how they

swing and balance and all, plus how it feels when firing.

Do these 600 OK rifles with the very short 18" and 20" bbls

weigh 14 pounds or more; or are they light weight rifles?

Jack

OH GOD! {Seriously, we need the help.}

As my wise old Grandfather would say "those .600's are just the cat's ass!". I should have fondled BD700's while I was back at his place in September; I'd have a better feel for weight and balance. Oh, well, it will have to wait until next trip to Wayne's house.

Jack,

These rifles can weigh 14 lbs. in a wood stock, more in a synthetic because we can stuff more lead in the butt than we can in a wood stock. But if you do that, you lose the balance of the rifle and it becomes butt heavy. Around 10-1/2 to 11 lbs. is about right, for me at least.

What is unbelievable? The velocity drop? There is no formula for velocity loss per inch of barrel loss no matter what the Gurus write in the the gun magazines. This is just data that I've collected from a few different rifles using the same loads in each. Like I said, it doesn't really matter if it loses even 200 fps, it will still clobber anything that walks, crawls, flies, or swims.

Come to the Dallas Safari Club convention and you can check them out.

Rich,

I will be at Reno as a spectator only. Not sure which day I'm going yet. We are going to catch it on the way home from Dallas.
