MJines.470 Capstick Rebore
On the subject of the .470 Capstick, any significant issues with rechambering and reboring a CZ550 Safari Magnum in .458 Win Mag to .470 Capstick? Will the chamber clean up completely? I am guessing feeding would be fine given the cavernous nature of the 550 magazine.

boom stickId be curious if it could be done. I dont know if there is enough meat to do it since you have to clean up the groves first. Pac-Nor does a 1 in 10 twist 470 =)

Idaho Sharpshooterfeeding is not an issue with the Lott, the Capstick should be a breeze. I still have my CZ in 505 Gibbs, the barrel mikes .825 OD and barrel thickness is .175". My CZ 450 Lott/450 Dakota mikes .675" and barrel thickness is just .115".
Those two bracket your notion of a 470 Capstick, would there be an issue with wall thickness?

jeffeossoIt will be light, and yes, it can be done .. may need to replace the follower --
Rich,
measure your barrel at 23" from the front of the action .. .100 is a lawyered up minimum.

jeffeossoMike,
you could even rebore and rechamber to 470 AR

boom stickMy questioning the enough meat in the barrel did not have to do with barrel wall thickness but enough meat to clean up the grooves then make the bore and grooves for the 470 with only 17 thou between the two groove diameters and not quite sure the diff between the two bores. If it can be done that is great.

MJinesI think I have a line on a NIB Win M70 Safari Express out of the custom shop in .470 Capstick. I am going to hold tight on the rebore for the moment. Thanks for the feedback.

Strut10You stole my question!!

I was just thinking the same thing....... CZ Lott to Capstick re-bore.
I have a Model 70 Classic .300 Wby. sitting back as a Capstick donor. But I got to thinking it might be just as easy or easier (and more economical) to go the CZ route.
Thanks for asking!!

butchlambertIt should clean up. You are looking at .459 to .475 in groove diameter. Most grooves are .004-.006 in depth. I would ask Jim Dubell.
