AglifterSafari rifle fitting/instruction around Dallas
I've helped my buddy out as much as I could, but I'm just a farmboy who's spent my life mucking around hunting on our land. I Any suggestions for someone around DFW?

new_guyAglifter - Is he looking for rifle fit modifications, or does he want to have a stock made?

AglifterRight now, just modifications, if needed -- no time to have a stock made.

Joe MillerAglifter, send jeffeosso a pm and ask him, he's down in the Houston area, but I am sure knows many smiths that could help your buddy out.

AglifterRight now, he's trying to clear his schedule -- so it really needs to be someone in the DFW area... Any suggestions for an instructor?

Hog KillerWhat does he need to learn about big bore shooting?
As for the stock fitting, you might talk to New Guy here on AR. He may be able to help with that.

Charles_HelmWhat kind of instruction???
I have a friend who has used the Beretta Gallery's gunsmith to adjust shotgun stocks. I doubt it is cheap, but...
I am still confused as to what he needs and whether he has the rifle yet. How does he know it does not fit?
If he is in a hurry, and low on time, that is a bad way to learn to shoot a new heavy kicker...
Most of my recent work was done at Tip Burns' shop in Canyon Lake. I was willing to drive down and back in the same day, but it is an all-day deal from Dallas. I did have a comb pad put on by Williamson Precision Gunsmithing in Bedford, but they seemed to have a pretty full schedule.

MJinesMonty Kalogeras runs Safari Shooting School in the Mason/Brady area. A number of us were there in June for a DRSS shoot. If he wants practical help in shooting big bores, that might be a way to go. If he needs a "fitting" I would be looking at someplace like Brileys in Houston.

I had forgotten about that place -- nice suggestion.

AglifterHe's probably fine -- it's more that he's usually just borrowed one of my rifles, and said they felt good to him -- which I don't believe, since he's 6" shorter, and of a much lighter build. He's used a rifle, but not a heavy one much, and I think some instruction would be good for his confidence.

new_guyA couple of days with Monty would be good for him. Monty has clients bring all of thier equipment and puts them through a two-day shooting Safari.
He'll learn quickly how well his rifle does or does not fit, how well it feeds & functions, how well it shoots, how well he shoots (winded, under pressure, at long distance, at short distance, etc...)which equipment is important, which is not.
I believe Monty is also having Kevin "Doctari" Robertson host a couple of classes between some of Janary's various safari shows.

Thank you kind sir. I know my limitations and don't try to pretend to be something I'm not.
