375 Taylor query

WyomingArt375 Taylor query
How come a seemingly good round like the 375 Taylor never got much recognition or acceptance? What's not to like?
Marketing? Not invented here ( Remington or WW?)
375 H&H already had the momentum?
Seemed like it could have been natural factory loading when the .338 Win did so well

GeorgeSIt's a tiny niche, and it seems damned few cartridges become successful by offering almost as much punch as an existing cartridge.

376steyrI like the .375 Steyr and it does "only" 2400 fps with pressure tested loads. The .338 Win Mag makes a nice cartridge when necked up to .416 Taylor too. The ability to modify a Mauser 98 for these cartridges is, to me, an advantage. The Savage 116FSS "Alaskan Guide" gun in .375 H&H is pretty near a dead ringer for Ruger's M77 Hawkeye Alaskan in function, except it weighs 8 pounds instead fo 6 lbs 7 oz. If the 375 Ruger wasn't just around the corner, I'd look at the 375 Taylor as one of my rifles too. Does anyone have factual information on grains of water the new 375 Ruger will hold? Anyone with actual drawing of the case? I've seen the Reloading article stating it's near the 35 Newton, but no drawing from Ruger or Hornady.

ramrod340The 375 Taylor gets you almost H&H results at a little higher pressure. Only advantage was the 06 length action. With the M70 and M700 being long enough after the spacer removed for the H&H what did you gain?
I have not seen but have been told that the capacity of the 375 Ruger was between the 375H&H and the 375Wby.
As usual just my $.02

You've asked a darn good question and I don't have a better answer than the one from GeorgeS
This brings me to the same question of the 375 Ruger....with a couple hundred feet/sec advantage over the 375 Taylor many of us (myself included) believe it's going to become the new 375 standard.....
I think some things have a time and place.....and the time wasn't ready for the Taylor.....if that makes reason....

375/300win is a better round
375 ruger obviates it.

What George S said plus....
While the 375 Taylor makes for an easy conversion of an M70 in 7mm Rem, 300 Win or 338 Win it lacks the romance/bullshit of the 375 H&H and I think most shooters by the time they step up to the big bores want the "real thing". The 375 H&H also allows for that dream of one day doing a top custom gun.

boomie,
at 2.55 (not 65) that's the 375 AR... but the 375 ruger is within a whisker of it

Brent Yateswhere can you find info on the savage in 375 H&H? I have seen info on some websites, but I cant find anything on the Savage website

Mike McI will work up some more loads with the 378 on the weekend to get it down to these "toys"
378 = owning 375 Taylor, 375 Ruger etc.
No, it does not have the class of the 375 H&H....but I like Cobras

billinthewildWho really needs it?

I have never been a "new" cartridge fan when there are plenty of existing cartridges that fill the bill nicely. Nor am I a wildcat fan, and I do reload. If you find yourself in the middle of an African hunt, and your ammo did not arrive with your luggage, trying to find that odd cartridge is like looking for a needle in a haystack. Sometimes I think it is a question of just being a little different. There are times when that is not credible.

RIPHere is a pic of the highly efficient .375 Taylor (.375/.338 WinMag) that I found could be loaded to fully match the .375 H&H that it stands next to here:
Can anybody here name these cartridges, all of them, left to right, #1to #6?
But wait! Is that an incipient case head separation on the .375 Taylor?

08 December 2006, 08:51
RMillerI can only guess but #5 is tricky.
1- 375 taylor
2-375 H-H
3-375 wby
4-375 RUM
5-375 lapua ?????????
6-378 WBY

THANOS WAS RIGHT!

That is the junior 378 Wby but has more class.
Think of 340 Wby and 338 Winchester.
The 375 Lapua....like many things with class..allows you to do it cheaper!!!!!!!

So in short....if want class but have no money, then 375 Lapua. If you have some money but no class...then 378.

That about sums it up on the cheaper part, but classier than a .378 Wby is weak praise, for sure.

WyomingArtThanks for your input. Yep, I'm looking forward to the 375 Ruger's introduction as well. Will be interesting to see how it is accepted.

You 375 Ruger fans look at this!!!!
300 Nosler IMR 4350 77 2,800
300 Hornady Hodgdon H-450 80 2,660

Very true, vapodog, it is BS just like the .475 A&M data of lore is BS.
