I've got two .375 H&Hs. One is a CZ 550 that I'm going to keep. The other, a sporterized M1917, is up for sale but so far (2 days) no interest. So what do I do with it?

I was thinking of having the M1917 rechambered to a .375 AI or a .375 Weatherby. Either will allow me to use the H&H in a pinch. Anybody have any experience with converting from the H&H? Any problems? Is it worth it?

The other thought is to use the M1917 action for something bigger. I already have a .416 Taylor, .458 Lott, and a .470 Capstick (being built). It's been suggested before to go over .50 but I don't know if I really want to deal with the ouch.

So, which of the two .375s (AI or Weatherby) would be the better choice, or should I not bother with it and just keep trying to sell it?

.375Wby.

It is registered with SAAMI, and I believe factory ammunition is available (it makes a difference to some folks).

I have re-chambered three .375 H&H's to .375 Weatherby. It requires nothing more than to make sure you don't cut the belt on the existing chamber. polish it and you're ready to go. Cases last longer and you get more bang for your buck without the teeth rattling recoil of the .378 Weatherby. Cases are just a matter of firing the H&H case and squaring up the mouth.

I had an H&H converted to the Weatherby round. There's quite a significant jump in performance for such a very small investment in the gunsmith.

The 375 weatherby to me seems like a very good option for those who want to get the most out of the great 300 gr 375 bullets available today. I think the TSX and the Swifts (and others) can take a few hundred more FPS and perform very well. I would just make sure to practice with both the H&H ammo and the Weatherby to know POI in case of the dreaded you-know-what...

You basically have the perfect donor we have talked about on this thread. You could be into it for probably under 600$ with a rechamber and rebore. If you have an extra set of 375 Dies you're in business to reload it. Scan to the 3rd page for dummy round pics...it would be the perfect trifecta set with your Lott and Capstick! Who needs shoulders?

If the 375 is the flavor of choice it is hard to go against the previous sound advice of the 375 Weatherby. The path least traveled is not for everyone but holds joys of its own thumb
