I wonder if there would be enough interest in a 570-600gr VLD bullet to get a manufacturer to make some?

I have been thinking about a 505/.458 for my other PH action. A sleek design, at about 3000fps...?

The 408 Chey-Tac is gasping to get 400 grain bullets at that velocity.
A 458-50 BMG maybe.
There is the 460 Steyr http://www.quarry.nildram.co.u...0Range%20Sniping.htm There are high BC bullets made too.
How about reducing the rim of the 416 Barrett and neck to 458 for the ultimate 458 on the PH action.

Plenty of folk have made em, including us. Problem is, anything in .458 with a big point on it makes for a single shot bolt gun. The ones we made were longer than your Gibbs brass and they flew waaaaaaay faster than 3000 fps. A 300 gr pointer in the 460 Wby goes 3000 & would probably go a little faster in the Gibbs at lower pressure. That set-up is gonna be too sloppy for long range work anyway. Supposed to be a "PH" not a "BR" eh ...??

thank you gentlemen. I just had this notion RE necked down 505 Gibbs brass and a long range shooter.

I think I had a "Boomie" moment...

Go to 375 so you can shoot 350 grain SMKs, much more practical in my book. You're gonna run into the problem of the OAL being really long though I believe.

Love shooting precision and long range. Big bores too!

Not really a VLD but I have shot some good groups at 200 with the old style 400 gr X bullets at 2800 with my 450 Dakota. It has fully penetrated several bison and pigs also and I still have 700 left from when I bought the last of their production. I envy all of you with the brains and money to make turned bullets and am amazed at what we can do with technology in this era. We have never had it so good.

GS Custom do a banded monometal VLD in .45 cal. It is non expanding so fine for target work but not for hunting however.

I handled one of their .45 cal VLDs not so long ago and it was an impressive looking piece of turned copper. The BC of that thing was really high as well. Being a banded projectile, you will get some impressive velocity.

You just need to make sure the twist of your barrel is fast enough, but check their site for the details.
