Gerard500 Jeffery New Soft Bullet
The 500 Jeffery has been a little neglected by GSC in the soft bullet department. The HV we had was a close range, boring, same old same old bullet. The new HV, on the right, expands much more readily (from around 1600fps impact) and will hang together up to about 2500fps. It tracks straighter than the old bullet, which was not bad, with a bit of fiddling with the CG and the distribution of mass. All round, it is a honey to load and accuracy comes easily from any freebore length. The weight is 450gr and 2550 to 2600 should be possible with a wide variety powders.
Thanks for looking.

Gerhard.DelportHey Gerard,
I will have to get a couple to test once my 500 Jeff is ready.
Groete,
Gerhard
Nice.
That is about 79% of the weight of your .510/570-grain FN.
It might regulate in 500 NE doubles by Tony's 75% Rule.
A 570-grain pair would also work nicely in 500 NE doubles as well as all the .510-caliber bolt rifles.
This more aerodynamic .510/450-grain HV should be an excellent varmint and deer bullet in my 500 Mbogo. I'll work up the loads with my stock of the old .510/450-grain HV and switch to the new ones when I get serious. For long range varminting I would expect to go a lot faster than 2600 fps at the muzzle.

One way to look at it is that it is multi-cannelured and has a rebated boat tail.

Another way to look at it is that the first driving band blends into the nose ogive at full bearing diameter.
The nose ogive is a higher number than the old one, longer nose. Probably has a bigger diameter meplat and/or hollowpoint diameter, for more certain opening at lower velocity when combined with the more slender, longer nose. Depth of new versus old hollowpoint?
The driving bands are fewer in number and more closely spaced than the old bullet. The new bands are a bit wider individually on the full diameter bearing surfaces, getting wider and with less space between them as they progress baseward.
Finally, the boattail is longer.
But wait! Is there a wee bit of SHARRC-iness on those bands?
This looks like a cross between the Walterhog, S&H SHARRC, and Barnes TSX.
Of course Gerard's bullets inspired all those improvements, after Barnes inspired Gerard to improve on the original X-Bullet.
What goes around comes around.
Nosler Zippideedoodah's from the 1950's were well before their time.
I just wonder if the new one is any closer to +/- 2.5 microns from bore and land diameters?
All together now, the Monty Python song, sing along with me:

MacifejBump for Gerard's new (sort-of) bullet design.

Gerard
Suits you well Mac. Very apt.
