I picked this .458 Lott up form Jim Brockman a few months ago. It is a built on a MRC action and is a very well executed utility rifle. The metal work and stock fit are fantastic. The sight system is very fast and very user friendly. I also like the idea of protected ear sights. This rifle would be just at home in Africa as it would in the alder thickets of Alaska. The rifle is astoundingly accurate and smooth. While not a beauty queen it would be hard to find a nicer put together utility heavy rifle for the price. I think that they are one hell of a bargain for a custom heavy rifle. Overall I am very impressed with Jim Brockman’s work.

No offense, but I wouldn't want the ears on my sights. They're more likely to catch on branches. George

Protected ear sights have worked for various military organizations around the world for the last 100+ years. I've seen enough front sight posts bent and or knocked out of whack in my years that I really appreciate the protection they offer. In fact I like them so much that I had them specially installed on this rifle.

I actually think the ears look pretty nice. Wont catch on twigs or things anymore than a bolt handle, safety, sling, or any of the other things hangin off of you. Damn fine looking gun. Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum

Nice rifle. What does it weigh, and how long is the barrel? It looks to be about 24", but the angles on those pics might be a bit deceptive. Again, great gun. "Sometimes nothing can be a pretty cool hand." 470 Heym; 9.3x74r Chapuis, Heym 450/400 on it's way

It weighs just at 9lbs. The barrel is 23". The rifle is all business. I really appreciate the ergonomics and the rugged simplicity of this rifle. This is my third .458 Lott and it is the one I'll be keeping.

>>>>Very Nice<<<<<<< I REALLY like the ears also .....I,ve broke too many front sights off and the whole bolted on mess has been broke on one rifle ....Banded with ears is the best way to keep a sight where it needs to stay ...Your right they have been on military rifles for about a hundred years ....That , like the Bear 78,s are about prefact .If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....

Surestrike Nice looking rifle! I like the wings round the front sight. I guess they could catch on branches but without them it would be the leaf doing the snagging. How many does it take down the mag?

I LOVE it! That is one business wise Lott! I love the Lott round and you have created a "perfect" working Lott. Nice John There are those that do, those that dream, and those that only read about it and then post their "expertise" on AR!

Gummboot, No I haven't tried any 458 win out of it yet. Your earlier post mentions having whole sight assemblies knocked off, which I've seen as well. Which is why I also like the barrel banded sight bases. Also any and everything that is screwed onto this gun such as the rear sight assembly are all deep holes and tapped for 8X40 screws. I HATE stripped out 6X30 weenie, girlyman, base screws! I doubt that most people know how fragile a standard front or rear sight base really is. It doesn't take much to wipe one out.

Surestrike, Nice rifle all around. What kind of a peep is that, very nice? If you would PM me with the info on the peep or openly post it here. Thanks, Dirk "An individual with experience is never at the mercies of an individual with an argument"

.............Ya ,. That is a great thing about the big bore forums So much Great info out there ....When I got my first big CZ it was a revelation to me that the rear sight base was part of the barrel steel .. .When I had my 416 built I had McGowan duplicate the factory contour in their Cryonized stainless steel ...That gave me the same under barrel abutment for a 2nd recoil lug and the express base ......I regret not haveing the sling eye and front sight base not done also ... .When the cost of quality banded sights and banded sling eyes are factored in it really makes the cost of the custom contouring more resonable .... ..Champlin,s have a Brevex 460 that has every thing as part of the barrel....and my future rifles will also ...I even think some , like the 395 Ruger Max and 475 A&M may start out as 1.5 " blanks .,.,I have an idea for a classic bear rifle I will name the 450 Watts A.B.C. .,Built on a 14 or 17 Enfield , but I will leave the ears the action ..... .If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....

Yes, but bl**dy great big ones much taller than the sight blade that they protect. The problem that you WILL encounter is that one day you will come up for a quick shot and use the tip of either the right or left ear as your front sight. I have used the British SMLE and No4 for over thirty years...and on only a couple of times...less than six...I have done it.

Great looking rifle!!! I was just curious, who made the stock? Is that an HS Precision? I didn't see an answer to this in the posts, Thanks! "Pray not for lighter burdens, but for stronger backs." T. Roosevelt

Jim Brockman does great work; I personally dont like the ears. When Jim wants, he can make a classical rifle as pretty as anyone. Heres a .404 by Jim
