Shootaway, I have been veiwing this thread for a while, and have just one question, have you tried shooting any other bullets thru this gun?

I had a CZ 550 in 458 and it shot and cycled perfectly.

One thing I did not see you mention, or I missed completely, are you shooting handloads or factory loads thru this rifle?

Even the rocks don't last forever.

I was out shooting again today but with my Ruger.I shot well today but screwed up on the video.I also had a case head rupter or seperate which I shall post a picture of tommorrow. My Rugers are shooting well and I treated them exactly as I did the CZ all along. The only thing that was different the last time I shot the CZ was the very cold temperature. So unless there is a problem with AA2230 and cold weather which I doubt but I am going to shoot softs alone next time and see what happens.I would like to add that when cleaning my CZ's,the patches do not feel as tight in the bore as they do in both my Rugers. It makes me feel that it is not a 458 at all but a 459 or 460...

The 458WM is one of the most forgiving chamberings when it comes to throat erosion and barrel life. Absent any serious abuse, I just don't see a sporter barrel on a hunting rifle being shot out to the point that it would go from shooting a load well to total failure with tumbling bullets from the same load without thousands upon thousands of rounds fired.

I realize that CZ did some screwy things with some of their barrels. I think a batch of them went out screwed-in crooked and they corrected this by actually bending the barrels. But even then, something must seriously be going on with your choice of bullets to have the ass end passing the front end from the resistance of air at point blank range. bewildered

Any company that will sell you a rifle that needs to have the barrel bent to shoot straight,or a rifle that does not feed anything,etc.. will sell you a rifle with a bore too large for the caliber it was meant for.Ofcourse a rifle can be shot out in 100 or so rds.If the bore was large enough to begin with why should that puzzle anyone?

I've never heard of any of the CZ barrels being out of spec reference the bore diameter and rifling. Even if the mandrel was at the end of it's service life, I don't see it being that far off. CZ has a good reputation for accurate barrels. With normal care, you could probably get the maximum number of rounds out of a 458WM moreso than any other centerfire caliber. This would be well beyond 3,000 rounds before the throat would start to go. That cartridge is a pussy cat on barrels.

Are those bullets screwy off spec to some major degree? Did you slug the bore?? You've got me curious.

Gary,
A couple of the custom shop rifles had out of spec barrels - those these wheren't CZ hammer forged barrels. If one over cleans with JB bore paste, one can cause problems. However, George has had a rash of trouble with his CZ .

however, he handles a 458 Lott RSM very well
