I made a impulse buy on GB. Found 110 rounds of Norma unformed magnum brass, new in the box. Of course it was buy it now. So I did. I already have lots of 300 and 375 H&H brass. I suppose now I have to build a 450 Ackley or a 470 Capstick. Maybe a 423 H&H since I already have a 400 Whelen and have the .411 covered. You big bore guys are a bad influence on me.

Think about a .424 OKH Mag. ?

The 450 Ackley has my vote. You can shoot many of the 458 rounds in it if you get stuck for ammunition. I had one in a pre-64 Griffin & Howe Model 70...wish I never sold it :-(

Another vote for the 450 Ack. Mine was great to shoot, with many, many bullets to choose from in 458. And if needed, you can shoot 458 Win or 458 Lott in the 450 Ack - don't know that you ever would, but the option is there.

A 424 OKH. I had forgotten about that old wildcat. Hmmmm. Is it possible to take this obscure wildcat thing too far? The 424 OKH is intriguing, but then so is the 450 Ackley.

Have you considered the 404-375?

If I didn't have a .395 H&H I would do that.

470 Capstick is another good one.
Your brass is almost ready as is.
Hornady .475 Pistol bullets for plinking.

I suppose I could rebore my 375 H&H (it has lots of barrel diameter) to 423 to try the 404/375 for a while, then to 450 Ackley and on to 470 Capstick. That would be getting some serious use out of a barrel.

Exactly. A rebore and should feed as slick as the 375 HH.
Granted it is not "Improved" or designed for top speed but I think the 375 HH taper and feeding/extracting has merits. 404 Jeffery factory ammo performance is pretty good IMHO. If you have not read the threads there is some good info there.

In all honesty it was kind of an impulse purchase. I have had my 375 H&H for several years and rarely use it. It has yet to be blooded. I have long thought of reboring it to something bigger. When I saw that brass I thought I should get and set it back for that eventuality.

I hadn't really thought too seriously about changing the 375 till that brass showed up. I am intrigued with the idea of a 404/375 or 424 OKH but have long thought the 450 Ackley was a good way to go with it.

I know the 404 would be a bit of a step up from my 400 Whelen but I wonder how significant it would be. I am more inclined to consider the 450 Ackley or 475 OKH/470 Capstick. Perhaps my multiple rebore idea is not so far fetched. I must be nuts. I don't think I'll ever get to Africa but doggone it these big bores are fun.

If unique and obscure will entertain you, you can try a 429 Harvey Super Senior. Bullets that will withstand the velocities possible might be a trick to get, as most 429 bullets are designed for handgun velocities.
