Thanks for all the well wishes…

There will be plenty of pictures and video footage of all the blood and thunder…!

I’ll be using Woodleigh softs and solids in the 600 OK…

Though there are plenty of good monometal alternatives I wanted stick with traditional style 900 grainers (besides CCMDoc will have plenty to report on all those bullets!)…

When fired at a slightly reduced velocity the Woodie softs perform better than when driven over 2000 fps (penetration wise)…

I did a lot of shooting with all types of “traditional style” softs in the 600…

About 400 rounds in total between Woodies, Alaskans, and Dead Toughs…

The Alaskans were too brittle at first (see my old posts) and are now too tough (see CCMDoc’s posts)…

The Dead Toughs were extremely tough but also extremely inaccurate (5” groups off the bench at 100 yards!!!)…

The Woodies would shoot 1.5” off the bench at 100 yards and group minute of buffalo when fired off hand…

The penetration of the Woodies has been questioned in the past but I’m banking that the reduced velocity will enhance it…

Besides, exit wounds or not there has not been one hunt report posted here where the 600 OK & Woodie combination didn’t kill an animal stone dead (cape buff included)!!

As far as the solids are concerned I shot a few clean through some fresh oak fire wood rounds (about four feet thick)….Scary!!!

OBTW, I’m loading 400 grain Barnes TSX and Banded Solids in my 416 Rigby as a back up rifle…

Thanks again…

Matt V.

Paul, you’ll probably be leaving by the time I get my hunt report posted so if I don’t hear from you I hope you and your dad have a blast!!! BOOM

Have a Great Trip and pack your guns well, take the bolts out if you are using flat hard cases...Use more than one container for the ammo, seperate it just in case so each box has enough for each rifle....Last,Hit'm Hard, which shouldnt be a problem with those 600's!
When are you guys returning with all the gory pics, specs and info? Good Luck! thumb

Hey Tom,
I'm using a pair of Tuffpaks - 585AHR/300SAUM in one, 600OK/416WBY in the other. putting ammo for all 4 rifles in my dad's as well as my own bag in case one or the other is lost.

We fly out of Newark on August 28th and from Frankfurt on through to Zim after a 6hr layover (my request to stretch ourlegs and get a break). Leave on September 12th and back in the States on the 14th.

Matt - leave some game for us!

Rob,

Sincere thanks for the offer on the bore riders…

But I’ll be spending the next few days in Washington with my in-laws before my departure so I’ll be away from my loading bench…

I would like to get some eventually to play around with though…

I’ll use em to plug a big hog or a bison later on in the year!

Tom,

I’m leaving on the 15th and returning on the 29th…

The 600 I’m taking is the rifle formerly known as “Grizzilla”… Cool

We might have to rename her “Capezilla” or “Buffzilla” after this…

Paul,

Don’t worry; I’ve only got two buff on license…

The only danger of killing more may be if I fire a solid into a herd! BOOM

Thanks again guys…

Matt V. signing off…

Matt- Your probably better off without the Bore riders as the chance of shooting through two or more buff is just to high! rotflmo-Rob
