My Africa gun rack is much smaller and simpler than most of you guys, but pretty much covers down on anything I ever want to do..

Winchester 70 Stainless Classic - .375 H&H 300gr Barnes TSX - PG and a back up DG gun if my other big bore goes down for some reason

Mauser 98 Custom - .416 Taylor - 400gr Barnes TSX and 400gr Barnes Banded Solids. Primary DG gun.

Wow! nice selections you guys have. I only have my old custom 458 WM built on a MK 10, 375 WBY custom on a M70 and I'm having a 9.3x66 built on a Husky. The 458 digest about anything and I've shot factory and handloads in it. The 375 loves the 300 TSX and banded solids.

Currently, Winchester Model 70, Custom Big Five Series, 375 H&H, as further restocked and customized by LeRoy and Connie Barry of Canyon Creek Gunstocks, located in Hamilton, Montana; Searcy 375 Flanged double rifle; Searcy 450-400 double rifle; Merkel 470 NE double rifle, as restocked and customized by LeRoy and Connie Barry; Ruger 458 Lott, as restocked and customized by LeRoy and Connie Barry; Winchester Model 70 325 WSM, as restocked and customized by LeRoy and Connie Barry; Winchester Model 70, 300 WSM, as restocked and customized by LeRoy and Connie Barry; MG Arms Ultralight in 325 WSM. All of the wood for the restocked rifles, with the exception of the wood for the 470 NE restock, was hand picked by me from over 35,000 gun stock blanks from Cecil Fredi who lives and is located here in Las Vegas. Big Grin I shoot, and have shot a variety of ammo in my African rifles, including Trophy Bonded, Trophy Bonded Bear Claw, Barnes Banded Solids, Trophy Bonded Sledghammer Solids, Nosler Partition, Nosler Accubond, Swift A-Frame, Winchester XP-3, Barnes TSX, Hornady DG softs and solids, etc. etc. etc. Big Grin In the past, I have also hunted with custom thumbhole rifles made by Cecil Fredi in 375 H&H, 300 WSM and 270. Those rifle stocks were also hand picked by me, from beautiful Bastogne Walnut, Fiddleback Myrtle and Tiger Myrtle respectively. I also had a 458 Lott thumbhole made in a companion/twin piece of Bastogne Walnut (the 'sister' of the piece for the 375 H&H), but it never saw Africa.

Hello, Boomstick. I'd have to say that the .500 Jeffrey Rifle is particularly special to me. A number of years ago, I was with some friends in Barcelona, Spain. Prior to this trip, I noticed that the French firm of Dorleac & Dorleac had a custom .500 Jeffrey Rifle for sale on their website. It was called "the Rhino Gun", because it had an elaborately engraved rhinoceros on the floor plate. It had been made for a customer who passed away before he even got a chance to use it, and his widow had returned the gun to Dorleac on consignment. I convinced my friends to take the 3 hour drive over the border to Perpignon, France, where their shop is located. I met Joel Dorleac, the old master, who showed me the Rhino Gun, and let me handle it. It fit me perfectly, and I arranged for the purchase of it as soon as I got home. As you can see from the following photo,, neither Joel, (in the green jacket), nor I are spring chickens anymore. His works of art are in only limited numbers, and, at some point, will not even be produced at all. I couldn't say no. Cheers. Chip.

Also, Boomstick, the 8 Bore Rifle is special, just because of all the gyrations that I had to go through, (with much assistance from Cal Pappas... thanks, Cal!!), in order to get the rifle to the point where I could shoot it. The chambers had to be cast, custom brass had to be made, custom bullet molds had to be made, and many accessories had to be ordered from John Millar up in British Columbia, Canada. We finally got to shoot it. A photo of the cased rifle with some of the accessories is attached for your viewing pleasure. Cheers. Chip.

Definitely the Dorleac transcends.
It is one of those for which Alf would trade a nut.
Me too.

Does it use the standard .500 Jeffery brass and staggered magazine stack?
Are there any tricks used like spring-loaded magazine side-clips? Stripper clips?
Really nice coffin floorplate, to die for.

Ahr cz 458 Lott
Ahr cz 375 H&H rebuilt after 4 safaris with nice wood
2 375 Ruger Alaska.
1 375 Ruger Africa
375 Ruger Browning BLR custom
375 H&H Blaser
9.3x62 Sako

All left handed

My African hunting is mainly shooting impalas and maybe a bush pig.

Most likely take my blaser k95 or ruger Number 1 to Africa on my next 3 hunts.

The big bores are kind of for plinking. I have way too many rounds of 458 Lott and 375H&h.

Our African guns are working rifles, with practical stocks:

Here is an old pic of the 500 AccRel Nyati:

In the pic below it is held by Lady Tanzan over her 375 Ruger in the rifle rests:

Here is a 500 AccRel Nyati round (450gnGSC at 2600fps), compared to a 375 Ruger 250gnTTSX at 2840fps)

We also have a 416 Rigby, 338 WM, and 25cal Marauder airrifle. What we are missing is a good guest rifle for grandchildren. Maybe a Kimber 308 is in the works. Wink

Here is the airrifle with its proper quarry:

Then there is a 416 Rigby, CZ, with its proper quarry:

Bullets look like the following, (350gnTTSX at 2820fps)

And after impact on a buffalo at 110 yards:

Here is probably the same 416 with an improper quarry (kanga, awaena)

And a picture of the 416Rigby by itself, not bad looking for a factory CZ workhorse:

And a pair of CZ 416 Rigby's with the rifle above the top of the two:

And a 338 for finishing up a buffalo:

The rifle is a Tikka, 338WM, with a Mountain Tactical stock and Nikon Inline 3-9.

Accurate rifles are interesting and all of the above are MOA or better and checked out at 100 and 300 yards for sighting-in and bullet drop,
'cepting the air rifle, of course. It gets a 50 yard sight-in and sure likes guinea fowl.

+-+-+-+-+-+-+

"A well-rounded hunting battery might include:
500 AccRel Nyati, 416 Rigby or 416 Ruger, 375Ruger or 338WM, 308 or 270, 243, 223" --
Conserving creation, hunting the harvest.

I have a fairly short list of Africa ready rifles a 400 Whelen built on a 1903 Springfield that pushes 400 grain Woodleighs at 2150 fps and 2- Win Model 70's in .375 H&H one a stainless Classic with a turned down barrel and a Super Grade. I also have a 9.3x62 but I doubt I would take it over, the 400 Whelen being a favorite.
I've been across the pond only once for plains game but fully intend to head back for Buff.
I took a .338 Win Mag for the plains game and it was more than adequate.
