what i am suprised about is the max length with the + or - is 2.6" (2.580 with + or - 20 thou) in length not the 2.5" that is losely thrown around. so it is closer to the 300 win length than the 30-06.

the shoulder being .515" does leave room for .0175 shoulder ber side if opened to 458.

Thanks RIP. Very cool to have the final specs. I am curious about the case length too....thought it would be 2.5 or even the nominal 2.494. I guess its 270 Win/280 Win length, not 30/06. Either way, picky details and no biggy....same action. Smiler Better neck length if anything actually. Big Grin

Cheers,
Canuck

IIRC, I was measuring the 0nce-fired cases at 2.581".

They made them a full length 2.580".

Trim-to is 2.570".

Let-em grow to 2.580".

Good night. ZZZZZ...

Has anyone tried cramming a few cases (or loaded rounds) into the various usual donor actions (VZ24, Ruger, Winchester) to see how well they're going to fit?

Funny, ain't it?
Theese are the first official specs we have seen of this cartridge. No reamers are available at order anywhere.
And still some people makes a point out of, that no highend gunsmith have made one yet.

After 5 years, I would say they had a point...

Since there actually is an engineer at Hornady with the initials MTM, I suspect it lends credibility to the authenticity of this drawing.

He also developed (or was key in the developement) of the 450 Marlin.

We will just have to wait and see if that was troll-made, photoshopped disinformation snagged off the internet, or the real deal?

I guess it is not official until Hornady says it is official, with a press release ... soon. thumb

No FURTHER comments, to you Dan, on this subject, until you have been converted to a proponent of Hornady's .375 Ruger.

This might require you to order a Ruger Hawkeye African before I'll believe you. I know where you can get one at an excellent price for such quality.

Geez, it is my bedtime again ... ZZZZZZZZZZ

Yes, one can make a chamber-cast, but hey, how professional is that?

As it looks now, nope. My gunsmith may be out of action for a long time, he's caught Valley Fever (fungal lung infection native to the San Joaquin Valley) and may have to retire.

A thought--Since the shooting nuts gone
crazy over Ruger, and seeing as how so many
posts on 375 to 423 cals, how about
a forum covering 35 to 444(Include 500SW). Then call 458 up huge bore or
biggest bore forum. That way we don't have to chase stuff each of us is interested in
all over.Ed

Actually I took the drawing and the group picture of all the Ruger big bore cats and sent them to my gunsmith and asked him to buy one for me. Two days later he emailed me and said that he was out sick with valley fever and couldn't do it, so everything's fine. No obligation.

The ony problem is, no 40+ big bore and I still have that 7mm Mag sitting there.

Frank,
I believe that Hornady is requesting all known reamer makers in the world to not use the bootlegged spec drawing to make reamers until it is made official by SAAMI approval/acceptance, which should be coming along in June.

I would suggest ordering your reamer sometime this summer. Wink

Any .375 Ruger reamer or wildcat reamer based on .375 Ruger made before Hornady officially releases the official specs will be highly suspect. Suspect of what, it is difficult to say. Wink
