but i bet 405's at 1800 will be a good warmup!!

jeffe

jeffe,

There will be no need to rechamber to get 405gr/1800fps. I think must folks will be glad to quit @ 1650fps.

NG,

Go ahead the quarter rib is already groved to take a scope mount. It shows up best in fla3006's second picture.

It's a $500 double rifle - just have fun with it.

Wow, I didn't expect that there was going to be this much interest, I probably could have had one already! I was the one that the one at the SHOT Show was handed to while still in the box and asked, " do you know how to put that together?" I actually had my hands on it before anyone at Remington. It was VERY popular at the show, I really never got near it again while the show was going on, to big a crowd. I guess I should have taken the guy that hand delivered it, up on his offer!

Davidson's and Zanders list these on their sites, but no stock at either. Read elsewhere that availability is September. Davidson's show MSRP of $559...will be interesting to see what the street price is.

For $550 she looks to be a fun rifle to play with. Although I'm no double fan I do love my 45-70's Smiler

If I come across one I'll buy it.

It felt sort like a short barreled smaller guage shotgun to me, which I think is close to what it is.

At that price I'd probably take it home, strip it all down, polish, dehorn and refinish the metal to a better degree and then reblue... Then redo the wood and fit it better. It would be a fun gun for playing around.

I think the key to mike's statement is "I am wait for it to arrive."

Meaning his dealer took his money and is ordering it when he gets it is any bodys guess. Smiler

Well, I don't believe it. They, Baikal, have been promising that gun for several years now. The excuses are endless. Perhaps, with Remington involved, it will happen, but I just do not believe it will hit the streets this year.

And it is, at $550.00 - for an SXS double rifle! Cheap, indeed! But I understand the barrels are "regulatable", so you can set them for whatever load you want to use, and they are made for a scope to be easily mounted. An advantage for old buzzards like me who can't see anymore! It looks like these SXS's have a rib between the barrels, unlike the O/U's??

I'm interested in this in a big way. I'm thinking of a 540 gr flat point at about 1350 fps. Lots of penetration and a WFN would be the "Super Cut" of meplats. Maybe Jae Bok Young's cup point would be the thing. I think you might just get about three piggies lined up per shot! Packy

I spoke with the owner of a large gunshop here last week about these SXS's. He said that he has been after them for two years and that his jobber does not seem interested!

At some point we will see them and they will find their level. Internet interest is odd. One would think that all that sells is Super 30's.

Too add that this may be a chance for the Russians to rise from the basic stuff. If this SXS rifle were slicked, had ejectors and decent wood it would sell for a lot more and still have little competition.

I think you are right HOGKILLER! I have an 11 lb Pedersoli double rifle chambered for the 458 RCBS, and I certainly do not want a 7 lb one!

My 458RCBS double is manageable with a 450 gr bullet in front of a load of 64.0 grs of IMR4064, but I don't think I'd like a steady diet of that load in a 7 lb rifle. I have a Ruger No1 that started life as a 45-70, that weighs 8 lbs with a steel Weaver scope, that was re-chambered to 458 RCBS, and it will get your attention when you pull the trigger!

What I'd do with the Rem double is get it regulated with 350 gr factory ammo, and permenantly solder the adjustments closed, and install a permenant ribs full length. OR, rebarrel it to 30-30, and regulate it to factory 170 gr ammo, with the same permenant regulation and ribs.

The grouved quarter rib should be modified to use Werne QD rings and bases. I don't think the .22LR style grouve, will stand up to much recoil with a scope mounted!

Hell it is a $550 rifle, if it falls out of the canoe on a moose hunt, and is lost, your not too bad off replaceing it!

I've been looking for and asking the local shops about the availability of this rifle since back in January or February when it showed up on the Remington webiste. Nobody can tell me when it might be available, but I'll probably buy one when it is.

Shoot, I even e-mailed EAA last year when their catalog showed they were offering a double rifle (initially chambered in 270 & 30-06 & something else common) to suggest they include 45-70 and maybe some other interesting rimmed cartridges (22 Hornet, 30-30, whatever). And pointed out that it wouldn't necessarily have to be one of the classic English double calibers to be interesting at the price. I could see me having 2 double rifles, one a 45-70 and the other a Hornet for less than the price of a Citori. Why not? -WSJ

Me thinks I'll have to get one at that price Wink Too bad they don't plan on making one in 30-30, that would neat!

I also agree that there is no nead to re-chamber to a stretched 45-70, or one of the low pressure 450 NE rounds. It is a fun gun for NA safari's. Here piggy pigggy piggy Big Grin

Not that there isn't corruption in Russia, but the biggest problem with the post communist countries is that nobody there will make a decision, and thus be responsible for something, hmm, sadly I'm seeing more and more of that here.

Anyhow, if you want to get some paperwork signed, you go and see the guy who you think is supposed to sign it, and find out it is his boss, he can't approve it, and his boss isn't there, or, another department of the government is responsible for that paperwork.

just got off the phone with Remingtons's Media Relations Group in Madison, NC...the double is now quoted as "first quarter of 2008, if we can get anybody at the plant to take some responsibility...". Holdover from Politburo communist days...nobody wants to stick their neck out and approve anything. They cannot delve deep enough into the business to get ANY ONE PERSON! to make management do what needs to be done so the rifles are safe, let alone quality fit and finish to put their name on them. Building Quality Double Rifles Version 1.4 is to bring some of the big dogs over here and show them how manufacturing and making money is done. Doing business there is like peeling an onion...there is always another layer to get thru, and in the end you have nothing.
Remington is determined to get them built right, decent quality, and sell lots of them.

there's always next year...
