Jamison has a stout brass 28 guage 3" cartridge. Headstamp says "28 G SIG Supermag." He says he gets 2650 fps from 3/4 oz slug and shot loads in standard 20 guage smoothbore shotguns. So what would it do in a rifle, like a single shot action, a Ruger No. 1? A double rifle? What? And across the street from Mr. Jamison's Brass factory, Dakota Arms has stocks of .423 Dakota brass and Redding reloading dies for the .423 Dakota. I have acquired some of each. The brass has headstamp that says ".423 Dakota" and has a tiny "DA" logo, no "Lapua" logo or name on the brass. That simplifies things. Theirs is the .423 Dakota, 63 mm long brass. Mine is the .423 Lapua with 69 mm long brass. I can now say first hand from handling the brass and seeing the Lapua Factory brass specs, that the .423 Dakota brass is: 63 mm (or 2.480") long +/- 0.6 mm shoulder angle is 35 degrees neck length is 10 mm = 0.394" You finally heard the facts here. No little birdies have misled me on this. BTW: There is a .338 Dakota Short Magnum that is about 62 mm long in the brass, a shortened and steeper shouldered .338 Lapua Magnum. There is no 300 Dakota Short Magnum, that was just "birdie chirping too."

28 Guage SIG Supermag ought to make a swell .590 Nitro Express double rifle.

Rusty That would be awfully close to 45-120 brass. I rechambered a Ruger no. 3 in that caliber once and it was pretty impressive. If someone is really hankering for Lott performance in a double but wants low pressure and a rim, they are missing a real bet. At Ruger pressures, it pretty much duplicated the Weatherby.
