boom stickmy soon to be 470... 56k warning!
o.k. dont laugh... the wife was at summer school and i was having fun with my camera...
this is my pac-nor 470 barrel, soon to be a 470 a.r.
it is a stainless "heavy palma" contour 24" 1 in 10 twist. quite a stove pipe...when i put a quarter next to it it looks like a double rifle

it is pretty heavy so that should tame muzzle rise and recoil some. i am thinking of a grey laminated stock from boyds.
this rifle might get me promoted to a bubba

23 June 2006, 15:41
jeffeossoHeh, nice pics..
that's a huge barrel.. BS, that ought to have all the recoil of your 45/70!!!
I don't know that the boyds stock is wide enough for the shank, so measure the diameter and length, and give boyds a call!!
You are well on the way, sir...
When are you going to make a bubba shoot down here?
jeffe
Great pics, Boom Stick! My, that's a big one!

vapodognice...now get another one just like it...solder them together side by side and attach to a BSS shotgun action.
You then have the worlds first 470AR double.....and that should quality for Bubba grand pupa!!!

boom sticki still like the idea of the blr...
i am thinking of doing a 358 a.r. on a blr...
pistol bulllets and 300 grain smack-downers!
358 s.t.a. in a lever and handy package sounds good to me.
also shooting barnes x.p.b's @ 3300 fps!
or maybe a 416 a.r on the blr

DAMN! i need to make more money to keep up with my wildcat'n needs (needs

)
23 June 2006, 23:56
boom stick
this was the stock i was thinking about unless you have some suggestions. jeffe will do, i'll call them to see if it will work

Boom, you need a Knoxx Compstock for that Ruger. If you get the mdel with the full aluminum bedding block you can skip the barrel under-lug. These work:

jeffeossoboom,
that's the boyd's JS classic... i built the first try stock for the 550 express on that pattern, in the walnut lam, btw.
grey lam's nearly NEVER come out grey, they come out green, when finished
jeffe
24 June 2006, 00:27
boom stickthat looks interesting, thanks.
i was thinking the laminated one would help balance the heavy barrel and put a kick-ease pad on it.
i will look some more into it

i wonder how it would do under the recoil of the 470 a.r?
i like the design and the groove for the fingers on the fore end.
24 June 2006, 00:51
boom stickso what do you guys think would be the best stock and recoil system (lugs ect) for this baby??? jeff?
24 June 2006, 01:48
Hog KillerBS, save yourself some money. Use the factory stock on your 470AR.
1. You will already own a stock that fits, when you get your donor rifle.
2. Just open up ths barrel channel.
3. Put on a first class recoil pad of your choice.
4. Weight the stock as needed to balance it with thet barrel. (lead, tungsten, etbc.)
5. Inlet and bed the forend for a recoil lug on the barrel.
6. Spend the money you saved by NOT getting an after market stock and come to SE Texas for a "Band of Bubbas" shoot.
Priorities must be kept in order.

Charles_HelmAnd if you won't listen to Hogkiller, at least pick a stock that isn't fugly!
24 June 2006, 02:07
boom stickthe stainless comes with a synthetic stock...
what should i do with it?
would a recoil lug work on a synthetic?
24 June 2006, 02:38
jeffeossoi got a spare mkII stock i would sell fairly cheap, that housed the first 470 ar
24 June 2006, 02:46
boom sticksold!

do i need to send you money or should i put it on my tab?
24 June 2006, 06:18
Gringo CazadorBoom,
Do what keith said, just use the stock with what ever doner gun you come up with.
Billy,

Perfect twist for a 470. Good choice, that 10" twist Pac-Nor.
Here is what my 10" twist McGowen 470 Capstick does with North Fork Cup Points of 500 grain weight:
You can use 470 Capstick data for your rifle, eh, with the usual precautions?
24 June 2006, 08:18
boom stickthanks rip...
that twist seems to "stabilize" those heavies well.

with the extra capacity over the capstick i hope to touch 2400 fps!
the cup and flat nose solids from north fork are my bullet of choice for "thumper" (my soon to be 470)

even a synthetic one?
if i buy a synthetic donor i would like jeff's wooden one...
thanks for the advice

24 June 2006, 09:03
jeffeossoboom,
usual precautions means start 10% lower...
i acually use h335 right now, and will be trying slower powders.. and 85 is a bit much, as we need to remember, this AINT a straight walled case

Boomstick,
Was that the Boyd's JRS you were looking at? I just tried one on a Montana 1999 in .450 Ackley. It handles and points well but the comb of the stock is so high that I really have to scrunch (?) down on the stock to line up with the Williams apeture sight on it. In doings so, it whacks me pretty hard on the cheek during recoil - almost enough to make me cry

.
The JRS design would be sweet on something like a (cough) scoped 7 mag though.
27 June 2006, 04:33
boom stickpws...
thanks for the heads up but i think i am just going to buy jeffs old wooden stock

p.s. which pacific island???
27 June 2006, 04:44
.366torqueChomping at the bit, eh boom!
Nice barrel! It should tame muzzle flip for you.
