A 600 OK in Australia Login/Join

After quite a wait for this one to arrive, I yesterday picked up my 600 Overkill.
I bought this one from Wayne at AHR last August.
A used rifle, no doubt someone on this forum will recognise it and who previously owned it. I'd very much like to find out a bit more on where it's been and what it has been up to.
Importing this rifle into Australia was a bit of a process. I used James at Black Range Firearms in Victoria to do all the importing for me, it certainly made the job a lot easier than doing it myself. We had to get clearance from the Military here because it was over 50 calibre. That was the easy part, the Queensland Police Service were the handbrake in me obtaining the permission to have it on my license. Even with 160 000 acres of land available for me to use it on, and my local range having the maximum approval for muzzle energy in Queensland, it was still a battle. But it all worked out in the end, and now it's in my safe.
Going to be a week before I can shoot it, will be one of the longest weeks in my life I think! I'm stocked up with 900 Woodleighs and various weight cast bullets, so going to have some fun.
Here's a couple of pics of it, used with permission from Wayne at AHR. Incidentally, Wayne was absolutely fantastic to deal with on the purchase of this rifle, and the many, many questions I kept asking of him, Thank-you Wayne.

Regards,
DC.

H&H, very nice! I've had 2 600 OK rifles. If you keep them down below 2,150 fps, you can shoot them without the brake.

Congrats on the .600ok. I invented it! Most people like the 7828 load at 2150 fps. PM me if you need any 750 gr crayola tip solids.

Nice rifle H&H Mad tu2

I recall hearing the troubles a Victorian was going through trying to import parts and build one in Australia - that was a few years ago, does anyone know if he succeeded?

Glad you finally got it; that was quite an ordeal. That was one of the early 600's built when ED Plummer owned AHR. I think I worked on it when I was working with Ed before I bought the company. That rifle has been to Africa and taken Elephant.

There is another 600 Ok being built now in AUS and I'm helping the fellow though it. It's coming along nicely I think.

Congrats! You are never under gunned unless you have a time machine.
That's not a gun. This is a gun (in my best Crocodile Dundee voice)
Has anyone done a 600 OK with a 16" or 18" barrel? That sounds like fun!

I have it's twin but with a longer barrel that I would like to get chopped off 4" to 6" or so. Don't recall who I bought it from quite a few years ago.

Boomy,

I've built a couple of 600's with 18" barrels and one with a 16". Here's a pic of one with the 18". What a hoot to shoot.

Managed to get some time at the range yesterday with my 600, fired off 5 jacketed loads, with 900 grn Woodleighs and a healthy dose of AR 2209 (H4350). Only loaded 5 to try.
I'd say the muzzle brake works well, as I thought the recoil would be worse than what it was. I was quite pleasantly surprised. I'm under no illusion though that heavier loads will be a real handful. Kept the 5 rounds in the black of the target, so was happy with that.
I have a 585 Nyati as well, and the recoil on it is quite a bit sharper (12 lb rifle, no brake).
I also has some cast projectiles loaded with Trail Boss, just for some fun, after a couple of other people had a few shots, we had fired 28 of those rounds as well. Even had a young lady maybe 50 kgs shoot the TB loads, as well as my 16 year old son.

Came home with a pretty big smile on my face!

Those of us who have dealt with Wayne know he is the MAN. He built me an outstanding .458WM. Nothing fancy but a working rifle.
