tiggertateOdd barrel band sling swivel. Looks like the factory forearm piece screwed into a shot of pipe and sweated onto the barrel.

a lefty is pretty much screwed for a 500 jeffe, though the suggestion for 500 a2/510wells is a far better solution.
the overly thick stock is for at least 3 down (could it be 4?)
I would replace to rear sight and give it to rob, right after I took the auto-lobotomy device off it. Ever shoot a "weatherby scope"? it's got about 2" eye relief at lowest setting

rootbeerMy guess is he went to a synthetic stock to totally avoid humidity problems and to minimize the possibility of scratches and dents when he uses this rifle. I can appreciate the fact that it's left-handed; I am left-handed, so I am prejudiced. Were I to have built this rifle, I would have painted it a darker color. But, then, he probably thinks it's beautiful (like he thinks his daughter is beautiful...).
The only question is: Does it

Not at all! Granite Mountain Arms makes their double square bridge magnum Mauser action in a left hand version sized for the 500 Jeffery.
And Karl Heinz Ritterbusch will build a LH rifle with a magnum mauser action from scratch in his shop for any appropriate caliber, including 500 Jeff.

okay, a guy could go with the GMA, but i bet that action costs 75-85% of what the guy has in it.
So, if it were right handed, I would have these complaints.
1: replace rear sight
2: throw away scope and mounts
3: paint stock
okay, the "checkering" is FUGLY..
if it feeds and was painted dark, had 1 standing rear sight, and NO scope, it would be fun.
after all, it's a big weatherby, and a single stack feeder...
Sorry (grin) hard for me not to like a jeffe!!!

tiggertateFWIW that looks like a Clifton drop-belly stock like Jeff Cooper's "Baby". Someone added the stick-ons and repainted it. If it's a Clifton its one of the best stocks ever made. A good stripping and new paint job would resurect it.
The scope and front sight are cheap to change. All-in-all, I agree with Jeffe that a lefty could do a lot worse if they wanted a cheap 500 Jeff.

AtkinsonWhat difference does it make on a piece of plastic derivative materal, its all butt ugly no matter what you do to it..Not only that its cold, has no warmth, reeks of recycled melted toasters, vehicle trim, kitchen knife handles, water bottles and used condoms!
One would get the impression that I dislike composit stocks, well thats not true, they make wonderful trot line sinkers, especially the ones with lead in the butt...

500grainsJeffe, true a GMA costs money, but quality always does. So fortunately there is an excellent option for left handed fellows. And a LH shooter can also get a double. Really there is no need for a leftie to resort to the perversity of the rifle pictured above.

tiggertateIf I was a leftie I'd buy it. Then I'd take it home, strip it, send the stock out for a decent paint job by McMillam and fix the sight while its out. I wouldn't want a scope on a 500 Jeff anyway.

remember the guy who claimed that fiberglass stock absorbed recoil, then we found out the fiberglass was much lighter than wood so that balanced things out...Now was that a media croc or what! Bet that 505 has a maidens caress with that lightweight stock, huh? bet me!

Mike378My guess is the rifle started as an old 378 because it has the early Wby scope and perhaps the bloke had a mate who had 500 Jeffery with dies and reamer etc. and so for him it was an easier way to go 50 calibre than 500 A2
Bolt face/extractor and feeding would be ready to go for a 500 J. A left handed Granite might have some feeding issues in 500 J.
In addition, at least half the fun would be having a rifle that would annoy so many people

BTW, the Brown Precision stocks have molded in "checkering" like the McMillans, and that ain't neither!
