Read this over on the ruger forums. Rugerforum(dot)com Written by Jeff Quinn. A gunwriter waiting for ammo to a writeup on the African model. (This is about the Alaskan model)Talked to the VP of Marketing and President of Ruger this morning. The first approximately 100 guns are chrome-moly steel, but the rest will be stainless, with a black coating. -------------------- THANOS WAS RIGHT!

yup...point the gun at a bear and holler "BANG"....might as well.....ya can't get no ammo for it. Bears are understanding however....they love folks that holler bang.....they taste great! /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." Besides there is no controversy about ammo for the Alaskan. As that rifle is not available yet anyway. -------------------- THANOS WAS RIGHT!

rmiller, I guess there are about as many Mastodon killed in Idaho this year as rounds of 375 rugger ammo have been sold. How many rounds you got so far? Rich PS: yes people are making fun of rugger and hornady...the thing that makes jokes funny is the basic element of truth behind the punchline. Like Polack jokes...ever hear any about dumb asians? People can only castigate these two companies for just cause. Don't you see the humor in rugger selling rifles and knowing at the time that there is NONE, not one f-ing round of ammunition for sale? I'll bet hornady is just dying, one phonecall or Email at a time over the delay on production. Rampant speculation in the industry is that they aren't even real close to the numbers they posted...and now they're stuck. The only bigger joke at the SHOT Show is the Remington spokesman telling the live NRA feed that the reason the 45-70 DR's aren't here is the lack of demand. Want to have some fun? Call either company and ask "WHY" there is no ammunition.

I don't have any. But that is not the point. The guns were not even to come out til first quarter 07. Well I guess that they certainly made that. The guns coming out early to me would be a treat. Remember this is a new model of rifle not just a new caliber. But a lot of people are really getting bent out of shape that there is no ammo yet. The guns werent even supposed to be available yet. I bet that there are no more new model guns coming out before the ammo is ready. Now how will you guys feel if the guns were left on the shelves and you were told you could not buy one cause there is no ammo yet. You can look but cant buy one yet. Better yet wait for the shot show for your first look. -------------------- THANOS WAS RIGHT!

FWIW, my jabs at Hornady are in jest purely as I know they will come thru with ammo.....and I know it's got to be a hard place to work with the stress this is putting on them.....they'll come thru and be just fine.....patience..... However the Remington claim of lack of interest isn't at all that way...this is purely insulting!!!! /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." If the "Alaskan" will be made in stainless in addition to having this new "industrial ceramic carbon boron" whatever coating, it will be just about perfect for anything mother nature can throw at it. GVA

RMiller, Maybe they listened to the outburst of whining about a non-stainless Hawkeye Alaskan .375 Ruger? That is good. Thanks for the good words.

My thoughts exactly. But I am going to patiently wait and get a couple other projects out of the way first. I've been toying with the 9.3x64 idea for quite a long time....

RIP, Question about your "African". Did you have any plans to put a second "Ruger" cross bolt thru the stock webbing between the mag box and trigger? Also, would a Ruger synthetic stock from a 338WM fit your rifle if the barrel channel was opened to fit the 375R contour? I want an "Alaskan" but I'm no fan of the Hogue stock. It has been reported that a special version of the "Alaskan" w/ the "African" stock may be made available on a limited run. I like the overall shape of your stock, but, I'm concerned about the stock splitting in the thin webbing area and thought I'd let you be the guinea pig w/ yours. If I could just swap out for the 338WM synthetic stock, that would work as I like its overal shape and handling characteristics. Thoughts? Thanks, GVA

my thoughts were just that as well. I looked at it this way. For nigh onto 100yrs. this beltless round that Wilhelm done in the 9.3 x 64 in a standard action is still here. Perhaps the reason for lack of popularity is advertisement. I am one of the few that will derive from him the benefits of a beltless magnum like power.I am still going for it.

The remington rep might be telling the truth, remember that we just represent the coolest portion of the population. while lots of us would love an inexpensive double rifle to screw around with (and probably blow up in some cases...) the overall gun buying population of the united states might not have a lot of interest. I think it is funny that the ammo is not ready yet, but don't think that it is something to harp about, big frickin' deal. GaryVA, I have now fitted the HS Precision stock to the Hawkeye using the small amount of epoxy bedding that HS supplies with the stock. There is a huge amount of empty barrel channel around the barrel now, but it will do for initial shooting. When I glass bed the walnut stock, it will get an all-thread hidden cross bolt in the web between trigger well and magazine well. The HS stock weighs 2.25 pounds and has full bedding block of aluminum. The walnut stock is 1.75 pounds. The tupperware stock that comes with the Ruger stainless .338 WinMag weighs 2.0 pounds. The .338 WinMag barrel I have is very close to the .375 Ruger in contour, is actually a little fatter in the barrel channel area out at the tip of the forend (.810" versus .800" approximately), then tapers more toward the muzzle than the .375 Ruger. So, the Hawkeye .375 Ruger ought to be a drop-in fit in a .338 WinMag stock. It is lighter and better feeling than the clubby Hogue. If it shoots well in that the tupperware, I like it better in the tupperware than the Hogue. I'll just put that walnut stock aside for now. No ammo anyway.
