Just for the fun of it I would like to put together a rifle which fire a big diameter bullet at modest speeds. What would be a relatively easy way to get there? I have built a few rifles so I have some skill and access to tools. I am thinking bigger and slower than a .458 Win mag. Thanks. Sand Creek November 29 1864

In a bolt-action: .50 Action Express, or .475 Wildey. In a single-shot: .50-70 Gov't. George

Look for an H&R single shot in 500 S&W. Brass pertty cheap as are dies.....you can get into one for usually under $250...great starting point.

Lots of good thoughts, thanks. I am probably looking at a bolt action. It seems like one of the pistol calibers would be the way to go. Available brass and bullets. A short bolt gun would be handy and fun. Something like this would be capable for just about anything on the North American continent, right? Sand Creek November 29 1864
