Paul TruccoloIs the 458 B&M the best short action big bore ever?
There is an absolutely stunning 458 B&M for sale on Accurate Innovations web site at the moment, for the true believers

Some of us still shamelessly look at the prices on the menu.

416TanzanI just ran across something called a 500 CYRUS.
It sounds like a .500" round limited to a short action, but perhaps based on the Rigby casehead. I couldn't find specs, but am guessing from descriptions and a picture. Unfortunately, it is not listed on AmmoGuide, so we lack that comparative cpacity algorithm and pretty pictures.
http://www.crossoutdoors.com/cartridges.htmlA picture is listed in Guns Illustrated 2011, p123:

boom stickA good candidate.
There is a lot more involved in getting the 500 Cyrus to feed if I remember. I have handled and shot the 500 Cyrus. A punchy gun. I would prefer without the rebated rim and a tad shorter to use .510 bullets. I think they did make a .510 version but the problem would be OAL for a short action. A 2.25" Rigby case necked to .510 would be about perfect if you did not mind the smith bill.
