just to have it said, its not penetration in animals, rather materials as wood, aluminium, steel etc.

me and some friends of mine like to gather and go into the woods and shoot trough things, mostly woodlogs and things like that, but sometimes we get hold of some old cars.
its like christmas and new year at the same time

but to the case
the bullet diameter should be minimum .338
the rifle will be heavy and fitted with a silencer, so recoil isn`t a object.

which caliber would you chose for maximum penetration at 0-660 yds?

.50 bmg is banned here
.408 CheyTac/.416 Barret/.460 Steyr are too expensive so i can`t use them either

i will appreciate all advises and experiences

I would try the 338 Lapua.
Get some RUAG AP ammo.

500 a2 is a big good cheap-ish option on a semicustom

or factory go 460 wby

Full house 378 weatherby or 338 Lapua, with steel jacketed solids. My other question: can a rifle of such magnitude be silenced? Did you mean a compensator?

Yep, sounds like he meant muzzle brake.

The best choice for junkyard penetration at 0 to 660 yards would be the one you can get milsurp AP bullets to load in your cartridge.

.338 Lapua, .338/378Wby, or 500 A-square, assuming the 50 BMG bullets are available as components.

I used to buy those pulled black tip AP bullets for about 35 cents each, in bulk. 700 grainers at 2150 fps from a 500 A-Square penetrate 1/2" steel plate at 100 yards, quite easily, leave a big hole. The 300 yard gong did not stand a chance either. Those bullets would totally wreck a silhouette course.

Could you get some Raufos (sp?) component bullets for the 50? Depleted uranium? Wink

RIP-might as well toss in the 500 Jeffery if the 50 bullets BMG are available.

Sounds like these guys need "The Ripper"!

Oh yeah! The 500 Jeffery would be great too, with about 0.3000" of parallel-sided freebore to accommodate the blacktips. Make that .5867" length of freebore to load the Hornady A-Max out as far as possible.

yep, the 500 Jeffery is 10 or more grains of water bigger than the 500 A-Square in case capacity.

.510/.505 Gibbs with the right throat, anyone?

.510/470 Mbogo AKA "500 Mbogo": mine is going to have .5000" long freebore just for the purposes of junkyard penetration and 1000 yard target work. Wink
