I have a new in the box Winchester M70 Classic Safari Express in .375 H&H mag. I have no real "use" for it. I'm thinking about selling it. What are these going for now? What is a sell it now price?

Thanks!

I just paid 1295 for a NIB 458. I think the 375H&H would be from 1300-1600. Just depends on how fast the waters running.

I bought an almost new 416 Rem Mag from the classifieds last year for $1200. The new list price was $1,150 I believe.

winchester's new catalogue offers a .375h&h, a .416 rem mag and a .458 win mag... no telling when they'll actually be out.. year maybe???... list on them is close to $1250ish.... retail will be $1100 or so...that will kill the market on the existing guns...i paid $1400 for a .416 rem msg 3 yrs ago right as winchester decided to call it quits.... if you watch GB, or GA, they get priced at $2k, but don't sell...

You could list it for 5 grand if you want....but if you want to "sell" it you would be wise to post it for 1300-1400.00 and get it. I just bought an ANIB 458 Winny for 1095.00 at a local Cabelas and 6 months ago you would have paid a few hundred more for it. Personally, I think the "craze" for the big bores is waining a bit.....just like any other one does.

Sounds like a reasonable price is around $1300-$1400.

Just for the record, I bought an as new Safari Classic in the 375 H&H about 3 months before Winchester announced their issues.......for a whole 750.00 so it could very well be that if they did market the new ones any time soon it could tumble the market for the earlier version M70's. We shall see.

I doubt if the new ones will be any better than the last ones they built. I have a .375 that is a MOA rifle with a $40 trigger job and a Wolff mag spring and I'd never sell it for any price. It's a deadly rifle and a nicely built piece of work. It's done it's thing in Africa twice and will again in 2011, if the hunting gods smile... "Only accurate rifles are interesting."

Care to wager? The last of the m70s where PLAGUED with quality issues .. and I was of those SHOUTING for people to not pay STUPID for them.

The new ones will be of the best quality m70s EVER .. Not built on the worn out, sold for scrap weight, by pissed off workers KNOWING the plant will be closing.

The new ones will be cutting edge, probably as good as a dakota in the prime of their life.

Good Lord the M70's have gotten nuts.

I picked up a used SS Classic in .375 H&H fitted into an HS Precision stock (and shipped with the original stock) for $650 the day Winchester announced the closure. I offered to let the seller out of the deal, but he went through with it.

Only problem the rifle had was that the front sight ramp had popped up. We took out the screw and deepened the seat just a little. Hasn't given any problems since. Put the softer Winchester trigger spring in it and had a 3 pound trigger instantly. (Has an extra one in the box.)

Isn't a beautifully finished rifle, but very serviceable. The irons shoot dead on with 300 gr TSXs at 2600 fps and the scope mount holes were actually on the right place. Did a fine job in Tanzania.

Price was very reasonable for that! Unfortunately, those days are gone.

I pretty much agree with Jeffe on some of the very last guns to come out of the New Haven plant. I am very sure some models were put together with scrap parts swept off the floor. Now I am not talking about the Custom Shop and bigger bore guns, they are most likely fine. But a bunch of the last WSM guns I bought to build the B&Ms off of has some issues. Nothing that can't be fixed pretty easy, but also not serviceable without some work. Minor things like the safety getting stuck and cannot manipulate, just odd floor plates thrown in, some weak magazine springs, and a few things like that. I swear, floor sweepings putting them together, get them out.

I have not seen a new one yet, laid hands on, but I bet they will be better than ever too and are. New equipment, and best of all right here close to me!

Ya'll know I love a M70!

Michael

Yesterday I took delivery of my Safari express 458. The serial # is G344xxx which makes it a 2000 DOB I beleive. I doubt FN can do much better than this rifle. I'm surprised how well it is done. Very nice solid wood, fit and finish is very good.

Maybe if FN does produce this gun again I might bite. But I dislike closing down the New Haven plant and moving the plant down south where the wages are lower. Leaving a highly skilled work force that has been there for generations in New Haven just flat frys my ass.
