Dear All

I booked a trip to the Kalahari for May, and the species on the list is springbok, Gemsbok and Eland. I am planning to use a .270 win (130gr TSX) on the springbok and a 375 H&H for the larger two. Now my question, which of the two GS Custom bullets would you recommend for this trip: 200gr GS HV (2900ft/s) or 265 gr GS HV (2620 ft/s)? Both bullets group less than 20mm at 100m.

Welcome! wave

Congrats on you Safari.

I don't think the eland with it's death bellow will say "No, you should have used the 265's Wink

I am sure there are those that have used those bullets here.

Unless the animals are wearing body armor... They are toast if you can shoot that good when the shot presents itself.

While I have no experience with those particular bullets, I have shot a lot of 235gr Speers and Barnes bullets with the 375H&H as well as the heavier weights. If you examine ballistics tables or have access to a ballistic program you will find that because of the low ballistic coefficient of the light 375 cal bullets, they offer no advantage over the 260-275 gr bullets except perhaps reduced recoil. The mid-weight bullets actually shoot flatter and retain more energy. Even though the game will be down either way, the heavier bullet may damage less meat and hide and would give you more penetration especially on longer shots. JMHO.

If both bullets are super accurate I would stick with the heavier one.

P.S. Your .270 with 130gr TSX bullets will surprise you on all of the animals you will be hunting, but I didnt say that!

Thanks for the comments.

Lal, I must agree with your last comment, but lately the farmers require you to use large rifles for gemsbok and eland.

I will most probably stick with the 265gr. The bullets have the same point of impact as the 270gr GS FN bullets.
