boom stickElephant at long range? What caliber would have enough penetration?
Soooooooo the 30 MM is pretty much a 2 bore machine gun. If you can get a decent enough BC on a 2 bore projectile you could do 100 yards on a pesky pachyderm.

It is a ridiculous topic in the first place, hence the reason for the frivolity concerning the subject.

CrazyhorseconsultingNo dog in this fight, no desire to kill an elephant. But, if the desire should ever overtake me, anything over 30 yards would be long range.
I am not a brave person, but an elephant deserves better than being shot at long distance.
You alls fight, not mine.

GrandpasezI agree that an elephant deserves better than being
shot at long range. Nose to trunk is the way.
If I ever got there to get one, my knees are so
bad, couldn't run if I wanted, so it nose to trunk.
Wheel me up close as possible , shoot em with
slingshot to make him charge.Ed

Why not the Barrett?
Why not? After all, it's just like shooting a great big deer isn't it?
Gents let me rephrase the question: You spot an injured elephant bull and cannot get closer than 100m, what caliber would you use to end its misery?

A 416Rigby would be in my hands and would work well.
But I wouldn't have a license and would need special permission.
