That's exactly how the .585 Nyati was made. The case is also blown out so that there is enough of a shoulder to head space on.

Yes but isnt the nyati plagued by varios rim diameters? .
But a 577 nitro case with the rim turned down wouldnt work because it doesnt have anything to headspace on?

Yeah, there are a couple different versions depending on what bolt size you are starting with. And I doubt you could get a rimless 577 to work without adding a shoulder or a belt.

Well the 585HE has the belt. And it will be much
cheaper than buying 577NEs and screwing with
the rim and headspace. If you buy large number
of cases, using the 585HE, compared to many other
ways and Trex, you'll save enough to
damn near buy the barrel.Ed

Well after talking to Wayne I think I'm set on a .550 mag in a cz550 action .
Haven't seen the data for 2300fps with a 700gr . But have seen 2200fps with a 700gr @ 60,000 psi
Been pricing brass over on custom brass and bullets. And after reading a article the .550 with a 700gr gs custom fn bullets. Its a bad bad caliber to be in front of. ,

Good decision on the 550. Frankly the Nyati and TRex all have major problems and you'll only discover them once your hard earned money is pissed down the drain. -Rob

A .550 Mag in a CZ action is great and huble458's 585HE Belted is bigger and greater! http://ammoguide.com/?catid=699

Ed Hubel's.585 is a.577 rimless. Straight case mandates a rim for head spacing.

Couldn't you make a rimless 577 ne headspace on the mouth? I was reading about the .50 beowulf straight walled rebated rim headspacing on the mouth. Couldnt a 577rimless be designed like a larger version of the beowulf? Though im hooked on getting a 550. Wildcating is still interesting topic none the less. Especially in big bores. Ed your 585 must be lile a 58 cal version of the overkill. Straight walled rebated belt? Ive read a article claiming thata among the .55 bullets the gs flat nose penetrate the best.

Already know that i want a ghost ring sight on my .55 mag

I couldnt find any info on a 550 Gibbs it alway pulls up cz550 just like searching for the .550 mag so i just call it .55 mag less confusing for me . The overkill is impressive but i like the uniqueness of the .55" and the brass . Looking at load data it makes good velocity on less powder than other big bores

Gibbs brass will still be available in 10yrs for your short 577 mag then. Wbut i never see ny self getting a gun in a cartridge your cant fireform for. More than likely i can always get 550 brass and its even more popular than gibbs brass. 378 brass will always be around. I like your 585he design but the 585he short(er) mag more because seems like brass will be easier to get down the road by fireforming.

Lotts of new calibers never make it.

Neither my 585HE or the 585 Short HE
has to be firformed.

And my dies for the 585HE(whole bunch on the shelf)
and bunch of reamers in a drawer are all ready.

As far as availability down the road, the same tools
that make GIBBS also make my 585HE case, and I plan having
a few thousand made about 4-6 times a year or more often
from now on.Steady. And have my site changed over. set up
in a month or so to supply cases, and provide info, loads,
for them and the kin will keep site going.
Just want guns built and shooting, in big numbers.

As long as site is going, and our info is posted on
a 100 sites, in a few years brass will be as available
as 458s.It would be silly on my part, with all these years
of work just to yield 4 dozen guns in 10 years, because we
didn't get serious about brass supply. Ed
And we see by most guys questions....
that lack of brass is biggest concern when
starting various big bore projects.ED

I might have to be around for 20 years
more to accomplish that. Be nice to
make it to 92.

I can do chamber work for guys.
Or we can rent reamers cheap to you
or your smith. Or get reamer from Manson.

If you get an action, by the
time the barrel is done you
can have stock ready,reloading setup,etc.
And if you need smith you'll have time to
get one also. It is designed and I promote it
for guys and their smiths to do guns saving
a lot of money. As well as buying expensive
ones as well. But this case is perfect for
other guns besides bolt guns, works great in
falling blocks, modern break actions.
Hell guys it outruns factory loaded Trex in my NEF..Ed

Ive been talking to wayne at ahr.
he said i can do my build i want in stages like i hope.

Buy the action (said they can supply a cz550 at a damn good price )
Then have it barreled or atleast pay for the Barreling job about 6weeks later is what it would take me to save . Im guessing 700+ to have a barrel ordered then chambered and installed etc and action reworked. Hopefully not more than 1700$ for a barreled action.
ive been looking at brockmans cz 550 mag stock. I like it very much.
Im wanting a ghost ring setup
