mufasaHogKiller is Ill
Hogkiller has had another run of bad luck in the health department. He is in critical care after a lung surgery and time on a ventilator. He is undergoing dialysis which seems to help with the fluid build-up. All prayers would be appreciated. MMP

fla3006I just got off the phone with Keith's mother. Many of you who know him from the big bore & DR gatherings may know he is suffering from severe complications of diabetes. Most recently, he had surgery to remove fluid on his left lung, a tough row requiring 2 units of blood, still in CCU, on dialysis, but ventilator removed yesterday, gradually having various drains and tubes removed.
I met Keith in the late 70s after our truck got stuck in the National Forest which adjoins his ranch. We walked out, his place was the first we came to, he pulled us out of the mud with his tractor. We all shared a common interest in guns & shooting and became fast friends.

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

lawndartMy blood would kill him in within one hour - it glows.
Is this type one or two diabetes (if you know).
Has he been on chronic dialysis? Any Blindness?
Any amputation of digits or limb portions.
Dialysis can change you weigh 20 pounds in a day.
Do you have a guess at what his weight was, pre-this admission.
Does he have a history of smoking? Two or four packs/day.
The alcohol does not matter so much unless he was sipping a fifth of Old Crow every evening.
Pulling fluid from a lung is not a big deal in and of itself (I know, I have been through it at home).
Do you recall if the fluid from his lung looked like Sangria wine? That would be worrisome for a lung tumor; but I think that is unlikely.
Most likely -
I do not know - I am not his hospitalist, pulmonologist or some other type of flea; heck, I am on medical leave from medicine myself.
What you have conveyed so far is not too worrisome in the big picture of his (likely) Diabetes type 1.
Oh yeah, any Heart Attacks (large or small), Strokes, or episodes of leg clots needing a filter placed in the big vein below his heart.
I believe he has a couple hog hunts left in him. Keep him active when he gets home from the hospital; take his television far away, and only offer him rehabilitation toys for entertainment.
